She's not hiding.

It's just that she likes learning about people and what motivates them, catching the subtle changes in expression and tone that's always ignored in everyday conversation. And they're more likely to open up if she has her trusty camera in her hand. It appeals to their ego. And then she likes to save and tinker with what she's already recorded, trying to turn what she's learned about human nature into something entirely unique.

So what Nick had said to her shouldn't have bothered her as much as it did. But she stormed out of the store anyway.
