STAR TREK: The Ringworld
Space…the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise, on its on-going mission to explore new worlds and find new civilizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before.
The U.S.S. Enterprise's Bridge
Captain's Log #24
This is Captain James T. Kirk of the U.S.S. Enterprise. As we head towards our next destination, in the star sector nearby Cygnus at the warp speed of six, we obtained a strange beacon for help. Odd since there shouldn't be any Federation ship in this part of space, in the Soell Star system.
I ordered an investigation towards the resident gas giant where the signal came from, Threshold. The gigantic planet dwarfed Jupiter by miles. The scout team returned and reported nothing, just a wasteland of gases.
As the Enterprise flew around the planet is that we discovered the source of the signal and to tell you the truth…it was surprising. Even to me.
"What exactly is that?" Captain Kirk asked his first officer, Spock, as he looked at the ringworld pictured on the screen of the bridge.
"Sir, it appears to be a ring, one with both mechanical and biological areas." Spock answered.
"What type of technology is it? Is it Federation or Klingon?" Kirk asked again.
"Unknown sir." Spock responded again, he was as astounded as his captain but he hid it better. Kirk leaned back into his command chair and thought.
"Sir, do we approach?" Lieutenant Hiraku Sulu asked.
"Let's make an approach." Kirk ordered.
"Captain, are you sure that it's safe getting too close to this ring?" Spock asked.
"It's barren according to the Enterprise's scans, except for a couple of bird species and plants; there is nothing we should be worried about. Relax." Kirk responded with a smile, Spock was still unsure but went along with it anyway.
As the Enterprise flew closer to the ringworld, Captain Kirk stood up from his command chair.
"Let's go explore it." He said.
"Sir, there's interference with the ship's transporter's systems." Hulu informed.
"No problem, we'll take a shuttle there." Kirk resolved.
"Sir, it is highly dangerous for the captain of the ship to venture into uncharted lands." Spock said as he followed Kirk towards the elevator.
"We are supposed to explore strange new worlds; I might as well go in there too." Kirk responded. He then clicked the elevator's intercom. "Bones, and Nyota, meet me and Commander Spock in the shuttle bay, Captain out."
Shuttle Bay
"Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not an explorer." McCoy complained as he met Captain Kirk, Spock and Nyota in the shuttle bay of the Enterprise.
"Come on Bones, It's going to be exciting to see this place." Kirk said as he placed a phaser on his holster.
"Shouldn't we send a recon team first?" Nyota asked.
"Where's the fun in that?" Kirk responded as he got inside the shuttle ship, the Columbus. The rest followed him inside. The shuttle ship then hovered and flew out of the bay and into space.
Towards The Ring
"Hey red shirt." Kirk said to the nearby crewman inside the shuttle flying the ship. "When we arrive, stay near us understood?"
"Yes Captain Kirk." The crewman answered.
"This is going to be interesting." McCoy said as he looked from the window the Ringworld, its huge size and incredible architecture impressed the good doctor.
"Captain, where should we land?" Spock asked.
"Where it's cozier Spock, we don't need to land on a jungle or desert." Kirk responded as he looked at the terrain scan made by the Enterprise on the ring. "And from the scans, this ring world has all of Earth's environments."
"Buckle up." He added as they entered atmosphere.
