Author's Note: This is a novelization of an RPG which a friend made for me. I hold it very dear, so please do not flame. I have changed some names and details and added a few things; I cannot remember everything.

Chapter One

"An awfully early flight, don't you think?" David's father asked.

"It's fourteen hours and six hours' difference. It's either an inconvenient departure or an inconvenient arrival," David replied. He and his father had made a lot a small talk over the course of the time in the car on the ride over. They had never been very emotional about long trips and neither was about to break the chain.

They had been waiting at the gate for roughly an hour with what seemed to be maybe a hundred other students who decided to take the early flight. Ironically, the early flight was the last one heading out. David had picked the last flight so he could enjoy friends and family before heading to the new school. His family had a long history of sending one of each generation to the Bryce University, and David was expected to follow that tradition.

"Now boarding on Flight 7666," an airline worker announced.

"I'll- see you when I get back. Give my regards to Mom," David said as he grabbed his carry-on bag.

"Wait," his father said. David paused as his father pulled out a small box. "I think I- well, I just- good luck with your theology studies." He handed the box over and the two waved goodbyes to one another.

David was then pulled from his father by the flow of the crowd. He was seated before he could open the present. Upon removing the contents, he saw that it was a silver cross on a matching chain. David smiled and slipped it on. He sunk into his window seat and went to sleep.
