"Oh dear child, there is no smartly dressed rabbit to lead you to a place where you matter! What a silly idea to think that you could not be replaced in a world such as this."

He was cruel, far too cruel for him to accept.

"Don't wander too far, dear boy, or else you may find that you will lose your head."

That damned trickster, controlling his every move. How dare he disrupt the natural order in this magical world!

"Are you injured?"

He was being checked over for injuries after he had fallen into his teacup by the cruel, controlling man. How strange.

"I see nothing wrong with your leg; in fact, it looks much better than it had previously! At least it bends properly for a cat now!"

But wasn't he Alice? Isn't that how the story was supposed to go? After all, if a young man such as himself was to be trapped in this strange world, then he should at least be the star of the show.

"I hate you," was all he said to the vicious man before him, the same character whose red eyes seemed to stare neither at the boy nor through him, but around him. The space he occupied no longer existed to those crimson depths.

"Is that so?" was the hum he received. "Then perhaps a position of power would be appropriate, don't you think? After all, the power to hate is the power to control, but without the control, all you can do is wither from the inside out."

"I am Alice; do not treat me in this manner!"

A dark, sultry chuckle.

"You, Alice? Alice, dear boy, is much more important, she is worthwhile," came the harsh whisper from the beautiful man.

"You are cruel, Hatter."

The tears stung his eyes, but they would not fall in this man's presence.

"Hatter? Hatter aims to protect dear Alice, my darling child. I wish to destroy that wretched girl. I am but the lowly king, youngling, who only desires to please his lovely queen."

"But who am I if not Alice?"

"Who indeed, for in this strange place, names cease to matter. It is not the duty of the characters to question their roles in our glorious play, you know."

"What is my role then? How am I to play the part of a character when as of yet I have no face?"

A surprised but pleased look crossed the king's face.

"Create one for yourself, child, and then your role shall become apparent."

Confusion.

"How do I create a face?"

A sinister smile.

"By killing the one who has filled the role you seek."

"I want to be Alice."

"Then kill Alice when she comes and you shall have your face and role, and then you shall become important."

Sorrow.

"Would you try to kill me in that roll, brother?"

Itachi smiled kindly and ruffled the younger's already messy hair.

"No, for in this world, you are my queen."

A one-shot for Sasuke and Itachi! Unless my deeeeeaaaaaaaaaar reviewer Kasuke. Hagase wishes it otherwise? If any clarification is needed or would be appreciated, just say something in the reviews and I will gladly either PM, email if available, or reply directly to the comment.
