Good Enough.

A look into a lesser-noted character – Matsuda. After all, sometimes you wonder what you're doing here…

Please review.

Sometimes…he wondered what he was achieving or contributing by being here.

After all, it wasn't as if he had the intelligence of L and Light combined, was it? On the contrary, he was probably the stupidest person there.

At least, that was his opinion.

He'd never done anything special. He hadn't sorted through the paperwork like Mogi so L could scan through them for clues (the one time he'd tried, Mogi had broken his quiet demeanour and told him off), he hadn't gone and had shootouts like Aizuwa or Chief Yagami (he was too scared to try) and he couldn't see the patterns, figure out the clues or sharply point out a little thing that others had missed like L and Light (he could only point out the obvious and then get told to shut up or be called an idiot in some way). Hell, he couldn't even look pretty like Misa and bravely venture into danger for his beloved!

Not that he had one…

Maybe he'd always been a loser. Well, no one else told him otherwise.

Matsuda sighed and rubbed his dark eyes, looking up from his computer screen at the rest of the dim room. Nobody stared back as they were concentrating on their tasks. Matsuda glanced at L's turned back for a moment and shrugged.

What the hell.

Defiantly, he stood from his desk and started to move towards the door.

"Where does Matsuda think he's going?"

Oh man.

Matsuda peeked shyly at L from the corner of his eye and found the young man peering with those wide, dark, long lash-rimmed eyes.

He always felt like they were x-raying him.

No, he wouldn't be bossed around or laughed at anymore!

Even Matsuda could grow tired of such things.

"I'm going outside for a break. You know, to get that stuff you barely know of called fresh air."

The words had flung themselves out before Matsuda had time to think the sentence over and the other occupants of the poorly lit room stared in shock. To be sarcastic to the point of rudeness with the world's greatest detective…that was normally Light's job.

Unfortunately, it seemed Matsuda's tongue and impulses weren't done yet.

"And by the way, if you all want coffee or whatever, your coffee machine (which apparently serves no other purpose) is walking out of the door as it needs maintenance. So you'll have to get it yourselves, okay? And don't worry, I won't accidently die or anything while I'm gone because I know how incredibly important I am."

And before anyone could retort or do anything at all, Matsuda Touta had walked out.

Reaching the exit after waiting around in the elevator for what seemed like forever (and wondering at his out of character outburst), Matsuda smacked himself in the forehead repeatedly as he strode out into the cool atmosphere of the autumn day in Tokyo. His shoulders slumped in his charcoal suit as he travelled away.

Matsuda Touta's outburst probably wouldn't change a thing about his loser status.
