I don't own PJO

"There's a new golden age coming and you can be a part of it if you'd just come with me." Luke had said, speaking with a new passion that matched the malevolent glint in his pale blue eyes.

Ethan shakes his head, trying to get those stupid, convincing words out of his head. No matter how hard he concentrates on anything else, Luke's voice never leaves him. He is lying on a rock in the creek bed, basking in the moonlight. He really is not the type for panoramic moments like this. He just needed a quiet place to think this over, and the place he found just so happens to be one of the most beautiful parts of camp he has seen in his three years of attendance.

He glances at his watch. Twenty minutes before Luke leaves. Twenty minutes to make up his mind. Stay in the Hermes cabin for the rest of his short demigod life and then battle the all-mighty Lord Kronos, or fight along side the titan king while standing up for his individuality, something he has struggled with since day one. It seems like an obvious choice, but Ethan cannot bring himself to turn his back on all his friends and family. They are depending on him. And he is depending on them. But no matter how many ways Ethan looks at it, following Luke is his best option.

It is every demigod's dream to be claimed by his or her celestial parent. It gives them something to hang on to. Something to rely on. To fight for. To scream at the top of their lungs as they rush into battle. But more than anything, it gives them a home. The Hermes cabin serves as a halfway house for new demigods as they adjust to their new way of life, before being claimed within a few weeks and moving into their very own cabin to live with their brothers and sisters, under the caring and watchful eye of their celestial parent.

Sounds great right? Like I am reading off some sort of mythological pamphlet. But that is only half the story.

Some kids get lost in the corners of Cabin 11, brushed to the side and forgotten. What is that you ask? Why were they not claimed? Oh, but they were. That is the sad part. A minor god or goddess claimed them. These demigods don't matter enough to the camp to have a cabin of their own. Instead, the Hermes campers scoot over or clear a place on the floor for these unfortunate souls to curl up until they die or leave. It doesn't sound so great anymore, does it?

Ethan is fed up with the dusty corners of Cabin 11. Ethan is done being kicked to the side. He is done being a nobody. He will not live his life as just another face in the Hermes cabin. People will know his name. People will remember him.

Ethan sighs and sits up on the rock, worn smooth by the creek. If he is going to have time to pack, he had better hurry. Luke did not seem like he was in any mood today to be kept waiting.

On this cold August night, Ethan Nakamura stands up and takes a step that few of his fellow demigods are able to make. He takes a step towards the rest of his life. He is Ethan Nakamura, son of Nemesis, and soon-to-be liberator of the nameless demigods.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this :) I would appreciate any comments, be them critical or praising. Just, please, no flames.
