Be still
{* * *}
Hush. . . Hush. . . Be still and listen.
Hush, Hush. . . Take the time to learn.
Hush, Hush. . . You must be patient.
Hush, Hush. . . . . And you must believe.
I will ask the questions and you will answer, for I am not perfect.
{* * *}
What makes love untouchable?
What makes the fight worth fighting?
What makes a person believe or despair?
What makes the hill worth climbing?
What gives people their faith?
What makes hate run supreme?
What stops everyone from trying when they have nothing to lose?
What makes everyone try when there is nothing to gain?
{* * *}
Give me answers! Tell me why!
{* * *}
. . . Ahh, but I know that you cannot give me answers. For you know no more than I do.
{* * *}
So I will be still. . .
I will deceive the very devil!
I will take the time to learn.
I will learn the patience that is needed.
{* * *}
And above all, I will believe. Believe for a brighter future.
Believe that my transgressions can be forgiven; that my pain can be reprieved.
Oh yes, I will believe. For without belief, what are we but whispers in the night. . . ?
Author's Note: Jane Eyre has always been one of my favorite stories, seeing as I'm a hopeless romantic and fangirl. *wink wink* And Mr. Rochester just so happens to be one of my favorite people in the entire world.
I very recently saw the 2006 mini-series version with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson as Jane and Edward and can I just tell you that I have a new favorite past time. Drooling over Mr. Rochester has always been fun, but now it's an absolute pleasure. *drools*
I truthfully wrote this poem several years back and hadn't the foggiest idea what to do with it. . . But I reread it and I found that it fit our lovely owner of Thornfield like a glove. I can just hear him asking Jane these questions.
I plan on writing a Jane/Rochester story one day, but sadly this will have to do for now. ^^"
