Lily Evans was not content to be average. She despised average. So she knew that when she fell in love, it would come about in a most un-average way. Lucky for her, it did.
She had fallen in love with James Potter, her "worst enemy" and she hadn't even noticed. And when she did she denied it. She had had an epiphany of sorts, and she was tired of lying to herself. The epiphany had been inspired by a quote from Hamlet:
This above all: To thine own self be true
Then it must follow,as the night the day
Thou canst not then be false to any man
Then it had hit her like a ton of bricks: she didn't want to hide anymore. She was tired of being scared of change.
James and Lily had gotten in a fight and it was only expected that Lily would stay in her room. For a long time they had been avoiding one another so neither had been eating. Alice had finally gotten so frustrated that she had arranged shifts with Sirius. Today, Lily would get dinner from the kitchens. Tomorrow James would.
But Lily was tired of the shifts. She was tired of the avoiding.
She was tired of being scared.
As she walked, almost ran, down the corridor to the Great Hall, Lily was rejoicing. Free. She would finally be free!
She pushed open the door to the Great Hall, and there was a collective gasp as she entered the room. The rest of the school teachers and students had all become aware of the situation.
It was dead silent. Even the teachers had stopped moving. It was as if the whole world was holding it's breath.
Lily's shoes could be heard clopping against the marble floors.
James looked up to see what had caused the abrupt silence. He, too, froze. Lily was walking straight towards him. Sirius looked worried. Alice only smiled, as if she knew what was coming. Mary was struggling to keep a straight face as she saw James's. Dumbledore looked amused, and continued eating.
In what seemed like years to James she had finally arrived at his side. He stood up.
"I have something to give you." James really hoped it was not a slap or a hex of some kind.
She took a step closer. Oh no,oh no,thought James desperately.
She kissed him full on the lips. Absolutely stunned, James stood still for a second, but then responded passionately. He put his arms around her and she out her arms around his neck. It was magic in it's most potent form, it was joy, it was happiness, it was love.
Now it seemed the silence was louder, and everyone's face was absolutely stunned, except for a few. Dumbledore's eyes shone and Alice was positively beaming.
Marlene Hart was heard whispering to her boyfriend, George McKinnon, "Now there's something you don't see everyday."
Lily broke it off, and merely smiled. "See you around." She walked away.
James Potter was dumbstruck. No one had made anymore noise. He, once again, stood still. And then as if what had happened finally hit him, he ran after her. "Hey, Lily, wait up!" She stopped and took his hand as they walked out together.
Lily could have sworn she heard applause as they walked out, and she smiled to herself.
Lily Evans despised average.
A/N: Has anyone else noticed that in the books the characters finally show there affection to each other by an unexpected kiss? And I was thinking, what if the same happened to Lily and James?
I really should be doing my homework right now, but I'm always at my most creative when procrastinating. Figures.
Review Please. I read them all.
