Author Notes and Other Random Things: ...Why can I never write any fluff? Or a comedy? bangs head on desk I mean, seriously, it's annoying me now. --; I'm one of the most bubbly people I know, and dang it, everything I write is angst. It's not even good angst, either! --;; This is another weird fic, so poke it at will. ; I'm not sure if anyone will get this or not, either... I have a weird brain.

Disclaimer: I'm not the Japanese man who is making millions off this manga. I'm not even Japanese. Or a man. ;;

An exasperated sigh escaped the boy's mouth as he looked up to the sky. On any other night, at any other time, he would have been thankful for the gentle breeze that swept through the foliage of leaves and the cool air. Tonight, however, it may as well have been pouring rain with Zeus's bolts cracking the clouds.

His eyes were shut in concentration, which was rare for him. He wasn't an idiot, far from it, but concentration really wasn't his strong point. As he opened his eyes and turned to his companion, he began to speak.

"You're trying to go and escape again, aren't you." It wasn't a question, but a statement.

The boy with eyes like shadows could only nod, allowing a dark silence to seep between them.

It had been just two weeks since the blonde had collapsed at the Konoha-Gakure gate with an unconscious Uchiha on his back. The gatekeepers had hollered for help and rushed both boys to the hospital with lightning speed.

Sasuke had faired the best of the two, escaping the battle with only some bruises and a shattered ego. Naruto, however, was barely alive. The wounds were like Tsunade had never seen; it seemed like he had been attacked from the inside. The group of older shinobi would forever have to wonder about the battle, it seemed, as neither boy would say exactly what had happened.

Naruto broke the silence, as it was his nature to speak. "Why?"

Sasuke said nothing, either waiting for Naruto to elaborate or for hell to freeze over.

"Why can't you just say here, in Konoha-Gakure? You don't need Orochimaru to get strength! I could teach you the Rasengan, and you could learn from Jiraiya and Kakashi-sensei and Gai-sensei and...and---"

"I will always be weak if I remain here." His voice was cold and without emotion.

"That's not true! There are lots of strong shinobi here that can train you! Think about what will happen to the village, Sasuke! Orochimaru will kill everyone if he gets your body, you know that, right? Are the lives of every villager worth your strength?" By now, Naruto was waving his arms madly, trying to illustrate his point. "Huh? Huh?"

"Idiot, keep your voice down. People are going to start waking up if you stay at that volume."

"I don't care! I will not let you leave again, Sasuke! And, and, if you do, I'll just go and drag you back and I'll keep doing it until you listen to me and---"

A slender digit was placed upon the boy's lips to silence him. "I don't care, either. I don't care how many times I have to escape, or how much hatred I earn from the others. You're my closest friend, so understand. My dream will never change."

Hard eyes stared each other down, until finally the demon-holder spoke. "And neither will mine. I'm going to become Hokage, and you'll be at my side."

"It seems like only one of our dreams will come true, then." Even with the seriousness of the situation, Sasuke found himself giving into the dire urge to smirk.

Less than a minute later, kunai clanged against each other, barely missing their target. The green and brown earth was soon tainted by crimson and tears. Each boys' dream was on the verge of reality that night, but only one dream survived the twilight.
