Happy birthday, Dino! This fic was written for Ciette, who wanted a sequel to the doujinshi The Parody by 83kingyo. In case you're wondering, you can find the doujin at the D18 scanlation group I'm a member of; the username is insieme-scans on Livejournal. For those who don't know about the doujin, it's a parody where Hibari is a wolf and Dino is Red Riding Hood.

Once upon a time, there was a wolf who lived in the middle of a forest.

Although people said he was tiny and fluffy, he took great pride in his strength and made a habit of terrorizing those who passed through his forest. All of the other herbivorous inhabitants of the forest avoided him, and even the humans living at the edge of the forest resented passing through his territory. The wolf knew that this was because of his power, and contented himself with being alone.

Although he had always enjoyed being alone, he had never been lonely until the fateful day when the one who was extremely well-suited to red hoods and large ribbons began the journey to his grandmother's house. He had spared Red Riding Hood's life, and had even shown him the special place in the forest where fish jumped from a crystal-clear pond, all because he could not control his curiosity. After Red Riding Hood left him with the promise of seeing one another again, the wolf spent the night thinking about what it was to be lonely, for it was something he was unfamiliar with and couldn't understand, even with the help of the fearless hunter who sometimes stopped to speak with him. The rise and set of the sun and moon seemed to pass more slowly, and after a few days the wolf realized that all he had been doing since Red Riding Hood had left was waiting for his return. His chest felt hollow, his limbs felt weak, but still he waited.

On the sunset of the fifth day, the wolf was almost ready to give up on Red Riding Hood's promise. As he began to leave the special place where the fish jumped from the pond, he saw a familiar red-hooded figure in the distance.

The wolf did not understand why, but he ran to meet Red Riding Hood as fast as his legs could carry him. Red Riding Hood greeted him with a kind smile and a new flower to put behind his ears.

"You came back."

"I promised that I would see you again, after all!"

Later that night, as the wolf curled up on the forest floor and fell into a deep sleep, he realized that the pain he had felt must have been loneliness. But now, he thought with a smile as he felt Red Riding Hood's fingertips carding through the soft fur on his tail, he had also experienced the true happiness that came with a reunion.

End.
