Kurt Hummel was scared to death. He was in the waiting room of the doctor's office. You see, a few weeks ago, Kurt had a nasty fall. He tripped on the stairs and badly bruised his right arm, just above the elbow. It has been three weeks since then, and his bruise hasn't faded. So he waited with his parents, Carole and Burt, while he flips through an old issue of vogue, it's the only magazine that appealed to him, and tries to hide how nervous he is. A nurse comes to the door of the waiting room.
"Kurt Hummel," She says, "if you and your parents could follow me." She leads him to a room to wait for the doctor.
The doctor enters the room. "We've got the test results back," He said, "There's an issue with your blood cell count. You see, they're a bit out of wack. But don't worry; we're here to take care of you. There's a 6 out of 10 chance that the cancer won't come back with this new therapy we're going to try. It's just been approve, it's the strongest there is and I think we caught it in time."
Kurt takes a deep breath and closes his eyes in an attempt to drink in this frightening news. He starts to daydream a bit. He dreams that he goes dancing, without a care in the world, and his very first love, Blaine Anderson, is holding him close and the soft wind is blowing his hair.
It was the morning of Prom night, just a few days before; Blaine had asked him to be his date. Kurt woke up that morning drenched in a cold sweat. He had had the worst nightmare; all his hair had fallen out due to the chemotherapy. Looking down at his pillow, he discovers that the nightmare was true: every last strand of his beautiful chestnut hair was on the pillow beneath him. He choked back a sob. "No," He said, "No, NO! This CAN'T be happening! Not before prom!" He broke down crying.
"Kurt, sweetie time to-"She stopped, "Kurt, sweetheart, I'm so sorry! I can't believe this! You're gorgeous hair, gone." She held him while they both wept. After a few minutes they gathered their strength and went downstairs. Carole went into her room-probably to talk to Burt- and Kurt went into the kitchen to fix himself a bowl of cereal. Carole came out of her room a few moments later.
"Your father gave me money so we can go buy you a wig, if you'd like," She said.
"No," Kurt replied, with a mouthful of cereal and tears in his eyes. I don't want one."
"Alright," She said, and exited the room again. Kurt finished his cereal and ran up to his room.
"Stupid Cancer, stupid chemo!" He yelled, "Why did this have to happen to ME!" And he collapsed on his bed and wept.
A few hours later he decided to get ready to go, it was about quarter of seven, and Blaine would be there any minute. He went downstairs to find that Blaine was already there. Blaine had a baseball cap on, and Kurt approached him cautiously trying to hide his head. When Kurt was directly in front of Blaine, he took the cap off of his boyfriends head and let out a choke sob. "Blaine," Kurt gasped as he ran his hands over his boyfriend's now bald head, "You shaved your curls? But why?"
"I didn't want you to be alone," He replied with a shrug as Kurt began to cry. Blaine enveloped him in a bear hug.
"I love you Blaine," Kurt said.
"I love you, too, Kurt," Blaine replied, and they go dancing around and around without a care, and his very first true love was holding him close and for a moment, he wasn't scared.
