Seven didn't understand the reason for love, she didn't really even understand the emotion, but she had it, she had it bad. Of course she had no idea that she was in love. She had no idea in fact that she was in love with her Captain. There was only one thing she really knew for certain. Standing in her Captain's quarters their latest discussion, or more accurately argument had just ended, but Seven didn't want to leave.

"Captain" She asked her hands clasped behind her back as usual facing Kathryn Janeway.

"Yes?" intrigued her Captain was confused, usually after such a powerful argument Seven just left angry and confused, but this time she looked as though she wanted something. Sitting down in her chair, the Captain turned slightly so she was facing Seven.

"I…I suppose this is a strange request "

"It's alright Seven, I'm used to strange requests, what with Q wanting to mate with me" and she saw for a second it almost looked as though Seven smiled.

"I just wondered if I would be allowed to sit with you" This shocked her Captain, her sapphire eyes went wide but she kept her mouth from opening, a controlled Captain's response.

"That is a strange request, would you like to sit on the couch?" For a moment Seven seemed nervous she gulped and nodded. Kathryn got up and Seven followed her to the couch. Kathryn sat down and then Seven sat right next to her. Kathryn didn't know what to do, and neither did Seven, Seven just knew that she had to sit next to her Captain.

Then suddenly her head was on Kathryn's shoulder. Kathryn smiled as she took out Seven's bun, and started combing through her hair with her fingers gently. "So why did you want to sit with me Seven?"

"Because, with you is where I am most happy, where I feel most like a human" Kathryn smiled, she was touched, and it pained her to hear that in other places she doesn't feel human.

"You are always human , Seven" Seven quickly looked up into her Captain's blue eyes.

"But my implants"

They are just a physical part of who you are" Kathryn explained, Seven smiled.

"You really think so?" Janeway nodded.

"Of course, you are human Seven"

"You made me human" That sentence made Kathryn's heart stop for the briefest of moments. "I think this is what the doctor calls love" again her heart stopped this time for a few moments.

"Love?"

"Yes, love, the reason humans get married, copulate, etc" Kathryn nodded.

"That's love in a nut shell" Then she smiled. "Love means other things too though sweetheart" this term of endearment caught Seven off guard.

"Explain?"

"It gets the heart pumping wildly in one's chest" Seven suddenly brought a hand to her chest.

"Mine is pumping"

"When you touch that person it's sort of like an electric shock" Seven then raised a hand and placed it on her Captain's cheek.

"I believe that was a very charged touch"

"and when you kiss" Kathryn continued. "the only thing you know is that person in your arms" Kathryn should have expected with the way the rest of her explanations went what would happen next, but she didn't. Seven faced Captain Janeway leaned forward and brushed her lips against her Captain's for just a second.

"Perfection" She whispered. "all I felt was you, and that's all I will ever require" Kathryn took a few seconds to open her eyes. Seven's blue eyes locked with her's and she found herself blushing and grinning like a fool. "I love you Kathryn Janeway" the smile grew.

"I love you too Seven"
