SUMMARY: Ishida and Ichigo have a small boating disaster.
"So Kurosaki, do we wait for the boat to sink or swim for it now?" Ishida and Ichigo are standing in the slowly sinking remains of a yellow pedal-boat. Inoue and Chad are in the other boat, pedalling along quite happily, and now completely out of earshot.
Ichigo looks at the fist-shaped hole in the side of the light craft. A hole created when his fist completely failed to intersect with Ishida's head. The Quincy has a self-satisfied smirk on his lips and Ichigo barely restrains himself from attempting to forcibly wipe it off his face - again.
Uryuu looks from the hole to the bank and then at his companion. He doesn't want to admit to his rival that he in fact cannot swim, but he also doesn't want to drown. He takes a deep breath to fortify his resolve and opens his mouth to make the shameful admission.
"Oi Ishida? I hope you know how to swim, otherwise we're both going to drown." Kurosaki has his usual constipated expression fixed firmly on his face as he stares directly into Uryuu's eyes. The Quincy recoils slightly from the direct look.
The look on the Quincy's face is priceless. If only Ichigo wasn't so worried that he was really going to drown he might have laughed. He looks towards the bank wondering if he could possibly splash his way that far without sinking. Somehow he doubts it.
He watches the Shinigami-representative as he stares speculatively at the bank. They are now ankle deep in water and no closer to safety. His senses tell him that even if he could somehow make Sado and Inoue hear him, they would never make it in time.
The water is up to his knees now and Ichigo is starting to get really worried. There is almost no boat above the surface of the water. Now is a really dumb time to speculate on wether he will retain his memories when he gets to Soul Society.
Uryuu grasps onto Kurosaki's arm in panic as the boat suddenly tilts, the water is now around their waists. The boat then tips back in the other direction and Uryuu almost looses his balance as the larger Kurosaki abruptly bumps into him.
Ichigo smothers the urge to either shout out his frustration at the ridiculous situation or scream like a little girl at the thought of drowning. His hands are clutching at Ishida's and he stares into the Quincy's eyes as the water rises up to their shoulders.
Suddenly, the downward motion ceases and both boys realise simultaneously that the lake is in fact very shallow and they can simply walk to safety. The quickly release each other and turn away to stare at opposite banks, each swearing to never mention this to anyone – ever.
