hey guys im back! i had some new ideas so i thought id share! last time i said i couldnt reply to questions, but wow was that ever unappreciative, so this time ill do my best to reply to any questions asked. i have an idea as to where i want this to go, but the path there is up in the air right now, so this story could be 3 chapters or it could be 10. that means this first chapter may be a bit bland, but the next ones should pick up fast. If you have any comments, questions, ideas, or constructive criticism feel free to leave a review and ill do my best to accommodate! thanks again for reading, and i hope you enjoy the story! (also i down own any rights or anything this belongs to Butch Hartman) (and sorry guys, i still cant figure out line breaks)
Danny never really liked school. Even before the accident it wasn't somewhere that he enjoyed being. Between the stress invoked by the whole idea of standardized testing, special rules for students deemed more important, and jocks in general, it was difficult to see how anyone could actually want to be there. After the accident however, his opinion of school just got worse. He was sure that if he could explain to Lancer why he didn't get things done, or could actually try in gym then it could be easier, but that obviously couldn't happen. All Danny could do was accept his fate, after all, he still passed his classes. Another thing that helped was that everyone knew that only the final years marks mattered – for now he had to do was know the material, even if it may not be in time for the test. That meant that all he really had to stress about for now was protecting the town. His powers had been growing steadily and he expected that in a couple years it would be more so a chore to fight ghosts than an actual battle, which took a lot of anxiety about the future away.
He had been thinking about this for a while, always building on this hypothetical plan then getting interrupted and having to come back to it later, which was exactly what was happening right now. He sighed as a familiar chill escaped his mouth. He was in class and hated the looks he got when he asked to leave. He put his hand up, and Sam and Tucker looked over. He shook is head, letting them know it probably wasn't anything too difficult; he had caught Skulker last night – thankfully without any wounds too bad, and only 2 days ago he had battled Plasmius. Mr. Lancer turned back from whatever important thing he was writing on the board and visibly faltered.
"yes Mr. Fenton?"
"can I go to the washroom please? He asked as nicely as he could
"Mr. Fenton, while I'm sure you can, I would prefer you use proper english in my English class, especially when you refuse to stop interrupting the class with these false washroom claims." Danny really wasn't in the mood for a lecture, but he knew the school board ruled that teachers couldn't deny a students washroom privileges without evidence; which meant that although Lancer know Danny probably wouldn't be returning, he couldn't say no.
"may I please go to the washroom?" he corrected, letting his exasperation seep into his voice.
"yes, but return quickly" Lancer responded, returning the exasperated tone. Danny grumbled a bit but quickly hurried out of class and to the washroom. Locking the door, he prepared to head off; quietly whispering going ghost. He knew that his 'battle call' could ruin is secret, but it made him feel like a superhero to say it, and where was the harm when he always checked to make sure the bathroom was empty. He pushed the thought from his mind as he flew outside. He still couldn't tell who the ghost was or where they were, but typically they found him so it wasn't usually a problem.
"Daniel"
Danny spun midair. Vlad was typically flashier when he showed up, and considering how he was at school he was worried as to what he would do.
"what do you want fruitloop?" he called into the air. He thought about how he probably looked crazy to anyone watching, but that was to be expected during fights.
"I'm just here to check in" Vlad seems to laugh a bit, but all that mattered right now was getting him to leave, so Danny didn't really care to ask what was to funny
"you know son-"
"I'm not your son Vlad. I will never be your son." Danny interrupted. He didn't even want to hear the rest. He hated when Vlad tried to say things like that. Beyond the fact that it was totally weird, he refused to become tolerant to the whole 'son' thing. The day he stopped saying no was the day Vlad won. Even if it was a tiny win, Danny knew Vlad wouldn't take if for granted if he allowed him to call Danny that.
"ok, ok, one day you will accept it, I just need to be patient. And I'm sure you know I'm this for the long run." Vlad materialized in front of him, opening his arms as if he actually expected to embrace.
"I'm sure you're here for more than just the warm experience, so how about I start the beat down so you can leave?" He prepared a blast, allowing it to sit a bit in case Vlad had a chance of heart and decided to leave.
"No, no, nothing like that. I'm sure you've seen me around a lot more recently, but I'm just here to observe." Danny laughed at that. It was true that Vlad was patient, but he definitely wasn't one to 'observe' himself. That was a camera's job. "speaking of which, have you noticed any changes recently? Anything… out of the ordinary?" Vlad inquisitive tone had Danny taken aback. He figured Vlad had some ulterior motive, but this had him thinking he actually wanted to just watch. Either way though, Danny knew Vlad shouldn't be given anything more than tolerance, and having Vlad hover around following him all day was way past 'tolerance'.
"ha ha very funny Vlad, but don't worry. I get taller sometime, and when I do you'll have lots of bruises to look forward to. But for now, how about you just head home before you get a nice long prepaid, all inclusive, vacation in the thermos" Danny shook the thermos in a lighthearted way, laughing at his own joke. He was already bruised, and any chance he had to get away without fighting Vlad was worth a shot.
"ok my boy, I'll leave for now. But when things start happing, just remember that I have 20 years of experience on you, I've gone through all this before, and I know how to fix it." Vlad chided as he turned, flying off. Danny was a little concerned with what he had warned of, but more than anything was happy he would actually be able to get back to class for once. Shaking his head, he clipped the thermos back onto his belt and flew back towards the school.
When Danny walked back into class he noted the surprised look on Lancers face, he had expected the shock, it was one of the only times he had ever made it back to class that month.
"Mr. Fenton, I'm glad to see you decided to come back today, I hope this is a step towards improvement." The class laughed and Sam and Tucker gave him a look of encouragement. He sat back down and began trying to pay attention to the lesson on whatever book he was supposed to have read last night if only they knew he thought.
