Lydia finds true love during a 4th of July weekend.
As stated before, this story is inspired by Yulin Kuang and adds in Jane Austen's characters and Bernie Su's adaptation of said characters with a surprise appearance from some modern Shakespearean characters. I own nothing.
Lydia didn't think much about spending the 4th of July weekend with her sisters in Sandition, visiting Gigi and getting to know the seaside resort town. But as she wandered around the party, which took place on the Sanditon Boardwalk, she met one of Edward Denham's friends, a shy law student named Peter who came from the nearby town of Messina with his friends.
Like Lydia, Peter was the only one amongst his group of friends who came single, not counting his professor Leonato who was a widower. So when everyone was pairing off, Lydia and Peter decided to pair together as they explored the boardwalk.
Lydia talked to Peter about what happened to her a couple of years ago, feeling proud that she could open up to someone outside of the family and her therapist. Peter told her about his share of drama in the past summer that involved his friends Benny and Beatrice who were totally in denial about how not over each other they were. Lydia laughed, happy that others like her understood the pain of what she went through.
As they went to the beach, they bought sparklers and lit them up while running around on the sand, then they headed to the Ferris Wheel to get the best view of the fireworks. Lydia couldn't recall when they started holding hands, only that it felt a lot safer with Peter than when she was in Vegas with Wickham.
The fireworks were absolutely spectacular, but getting to know Peter throughout the night without even thinking of having sex, just holding hands, was even better. The two of them got off the Ferris Wheel and just as Peter turned to face Lydia, she pulled him in for a kiss. It was impulsive, a little Old Lydia, but New Lydia knew that Peter was different. And to Lydia's surprise, after they let go, the first thing Peter did was kiss her again.
Best night ever, Lydia thought.
