Thayet returned from the desert with news. Big news. Jon sat impatiently in his study, trying to focus on the paperwork in front of him when she burst in, a grin a mile long stretching across her face. He rose immediately and for a moment they just stood, staring at one another. Then she gave the tiniest of nods and he strode across the room to her, scooping her up in his arms.
"She said yes?" he asked.
"She said yes!" Thayet affirmed loudly in response, " yes, yes, yes!" She laughed as Jon picked her up and swirled her around.
"We'll be married in the spring! You shall have all the dresses and flowers you want, my dear, and all the children too!" he exclaimed. He stopped swirling her and put her down again. "I love you Thayet," he murmured softly.
"I love you too Jon." They kissed, gently at first, and then with more enthusiasm. When they broke apart, Thayet smiled.
"We ought to tell George," Thayet said gently.
Jon sighed resignedly. "Yes, it's only fair," he agreed, "I get my happiness, now he and Alanna can have theirs."
"I know you still love her to some extent, Jon," Thayet put her hand to Jon's mouth when he tried to speak, "don't deny it, I know you do. I'm not bothered by it, in fact I think it only makes the two of you stronger and more resolute in your own relationships. But don't be bitter. We have each other now. George and Alanna have each other too."
"I know sweet," he kissed her forehead, "I want nothing more than for them to both live in happiness."
"Good. C'mon, it's not fair to keep George waiting," she pulled him out of the room by his hand and they set off to find George.
George looked up from his spy reports from Carthak to find a very happy royal couple looking down at him, hands joined.
"Well I know ye ain't here t' tell me the time o' day," he grinned, "what's up?"
"We're getting married," Thayet replied with a grin to match his.
"With the blessing of the Lioness herself," Jon cut in, waiting for George to catch on. Watching him intently, the couple saw the pieces fall into place.
"Ye went to the desert..." Thayet nodded, smirking, "...ye said there was one thing ye had t' straighten before makin' it official..." George was a sharp man. He knew what this meant. He rose abruptly. "Alanna..."
"Uh-huh," Thayet said encouragingly. His eyes fell on her face and lit up with the meaning behind this. Then he turned to Jon, the question upon his face. Jon nodded and smiled genuinely.
"Go to her George," expressing his own blessing behind his words as he grasped George's hand, "make an honest woman out of her."
George gripped Jon's hand still in his with both of his own, face alight with joy and hope. When he let go, he turned to Thayet who smiled warmly at him. "Go get her, George."
With one last smile at the both of them, George swept from the room to find his lady love.
