Ranger flipped over and hit his pillow. Julie had come to visit, but the house felt empty without his Babe.

Where did she go?
Where can she be?
When will she come again?
Calling to me, Calling to me, Calling to me

The music from Julie's room was echoing through the walls, almost as loudly as Stephanie's voice in his head.
"Why won't you fight for me, Ranger!?"
"Because you deserve better, Babe."
"Who are YOU to say what I deserve, Ranger?"
She shoved him in the chest and stormed out of his office after that.
And he had let her. He had let her walk back to Morelli.

Somewhere there's a girl who's like the shimmer of the wind upon the water
Somewhere there's a girl who's like the glimmer of the sunlight on the sea
Somewhere there's a girl who's like a swell of endless music
Somewhere she is singing and her song is meant for me

Every thing about her, echoed through his body. The way she would thread her fingers through his hair when he kissed her. The way she would sigh his name.
The way her eyes flashed when he turned her away. And how high she held her head when she walked away for the last time.

And her voice, it's sweet as angels sighing
And her voice, it's warm as summer's sky
And that sound, it haunts my dreams
And spins me round until it seems I'm flying
Her voice

But more than anything else, her voice rang through his ears. Everytime she had called him for help, everytime she said it wasn't her fault, everytime she said she needed him. Her voice would never leave him. Throwing the covers off, he got dressed, knowing he wouldn't be able to sleep now.

I can sense her laughter in the ripple of the waves against the shoreline
I can see her smiling in the moonlight as it settles on the sand
I can see her waiting just beyond the pale horizon
Singing out a melody too lovely to withstand

Getting in the car, he could barely see the road, still assaulted by his visions of Stephanie. Her rueful smile danced in between his eyes. No one smiled like her. It was like her entire body smiled. Her body's movements swam across his chest. Never let it be said to him that her body wasn't perfection. It molded to his body perfectly. The feel of her hair ran through his fingers, so silky and perfect. Her eyes tickled his brain, so blue and penetrating. But most of all her voice, it thrummed through his soul. Every motion played out through her voice, particularly the last time they talked, filled with anger, but more so filled with hurt and pain that he would let her go.

And her voice, it's there as dusk is falling
And her voice, it's there as dawn slips by
Pure and bright, it's always near
All day, All night And still I hear it calling
Her voice

He continued driving, not knowing where he was going. But before he knew it, he was in her parking lot. Big Blue was parked next to the dumpster like always.
He stepped out his car and stood there, still. He stared up at her window, wondering what she was doing. Before he knew what he was doing, he was walking across the parking lot and into her complex. Up the stairs and to her door. Rather than unlocking her door, he knocked, softly. Before he could walk away, the door was flung open, and there she stood. Mascara was running down her face, and her blue eyes were cloudy. Cupping her cheeks in his hands, he stared into her eyes.
"Forgive me?" he whispered softly.

Strange as a dream
Real as the sea
If you can hear me,
Come set me free
Come set me free!

"Always."
