Dr. Burke looks at her as he always does - with that steadying gentle gaze. "I can help you with that. The question is . . . are you ready?"
Everything Kate aches for pushes upwards inside her, breaks free.
"Yes." She manages to say. "I think I am."
"Why?" Her shrink asks. "Why are you ready now?"
She smiles through her tears. "Because there is finally something else I want more than I want the person responsible for the murder of my mother – there is something I need more."
"And what is that?"
Kate smiles again, wistful, and her answer is fervent, the truth of it ringing in her tone.
"Castle."
