She sat there cold as stone, she refused to answer the door. She didn't even flinch when the phone rang. She knew it was Elliot. She knew he had come to her apartment to apologize.

She knew he would apologize for undermining her not only as a cop, but as his partner. Tell her that he didn't mean anything by it, just that he was concerned for her safety.

She knew he was going to try to make things right between them and try to talk about the mistakes that were made. To convince her that he did trust her to watch her own back and to watch his.

But she wasn't sure if he really did trust her, not anymore.

She wasn't sure if she trusted herself either.

How could she have let her guard down? How did she let her guard down enough that Plummer was able to follow her home, kill Bruce Derricks, who was alive until she went to see him, and leave him dead in a box at her front door?

She had let her feelings get in the way of her instincts and cloud her judgements.

She was a good cop. She had good instincts. But she didn't feel like a good cop. Not tonight.

Eric Plummer was a dirtbag, he deserved to be locked up for the crimes that he DID commit. He didn't deserve to die. She wished she didn't have to shoot him. She didn't want to shoot him. She asked him to drop the gun, she gave him several chances. She asked him to drop his gun. Why didn't he listen?

She sat there reveling in her thoughts, letting the stream of tears fall from her eyes. She didn't want to kill him. She sat there staring at the nothingness ahead of her because everytime she closed her eyes, she saw him. Mocking her, taunting her. She sat there second guessing everything she's ever done.

Having Elliot show up at her door was not going to help. That isn't what she needed right now.

He betrayed her. Snuck behind her back. Put an order of protection on her like she was some kind of a child.

Contrary to popular belief, she could take care of herself and she could watch after the team. She deserved to be treated better, especially by him. They have been partners for a while now, they knew what the other was going to do before they did it. They were friends.

He should have trusted her.

She wasn't angry that he wanted reassurance she was safe, she was angry that he didn't tell her. Had the rolls been reversed, she probably would have taken an order out on him too, hell she probably would have stayed with him until they caught the guy, he had a wife and kids after all.

She was afraid, not of Plummer, but she was afraid because Elliot cared.

No one cared about her, not for a long time, and everyone that she cared about hurt her in some way or left her. She was afraid that Elliot was going to do the same. He was her best friend, she couldn't lose him too.

But right now, she was pissed at him. Too pissed to answer the door and let him in.

She heard him walk away from the front door, away from her.

She wanted to run after him, tell him "Thank You." She wanted to see his face and listen to his words of comfort. She wanted a little human connection.

But she wasn't going to.

Right now, she was still too angry to forgive him. Right now, she was going to sit here and let the tears fall from her eyes.

But tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow.
