Talib: I really wanted to write an AC fanfic set during the French Revolution. So now I'm doing it!

Chapter One: Stranger in a Strange Land

(Tuesday, 23 June 1789 – 11:45hrs, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States of America)

"Sam," my sister, Rosalie, pulled at my hair. I rubbed the ever seductive sleep out of my eyes.

"Oui, mon ami?" She put her head on my arm. "What bothers you?"

"I want to go home." I kissed her forehead.

"We can't. Papa wants us to be here." She softly whined. "We can go home one day, but not today." I kissed her forehead again. "Come on, let's get dressed. Wake up Alice."

Rosalie woke Alice up and undid her braid from last night. I took off my nightgown and quickly tied my corset. I put on my pants and my shirt and dressed my sisters. Then I packed up our stuff in our trunk.

That trunk is all we have left. We only have the clothes on our backs and this chest. Papa's father entrusted it to him and now he's entrusting it to me.

"Make way for our arrival, men!" The Captain yelled in French. The fellow sailors spread the word and cheered. I'm excited, too. Months at sea and I finally get to see land. However, it is not the land of my darling France.

But I have to make do. We all do.

-Memory: Fast Forward-

(Tuesday, 23 June 1789 – 12:59hrs, Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, United States of America)

Rosalie toddled along with Alice as I carried the chest to the inn. The streets of this city are surprisingly quiet and Father told me that this is a lively city. I am somewhat disappointed.

"Sam!" Rosalie yelled. I looked back at Rosalie and Alice, four and two, respectively. "My legs hurt and I'm hungry. When can we eat?"

"As soon as we get to the inn, I promise." I quickly set the chest down and let my arms dangle at my side. Even though not much is in there, this chest is very heavy. I lifted my arms up to the sky and then brought them back to my sides. Rosalie and Alice caught up with me and sat on the ground. "Get up! You'll get mud on your dresses!"

"I don't care! My legs hurt, Sam." Rosalie whined. Alice started to cry. "Now Alice is crying."

"Oh Alice, stop crying. We'll get food once we reach the inn. It isn't that far, I promise." Alice got up and held on to my leg.

"She's not going to walk, Sam."

"I figured." Then I sighed. "Alright, let's go. It's not that far ahead."
