Summary: If London burns, I'll be standing on the beach
with my guitar.
Author's notes: Ohhh my god I love that
game.
Mike's floor is littered with various videogame boxes, CD cases, and enough crumpled paper to invoke spontaneous combustion. To avoid stepping on hidden fragile objects (an errant footstep can easily result in the sound of cracking plastic), Charlie watches his battered sneakers as he treads across the room. Cautiously, he inspects the bedspread and finds a suitable place to sit.
Standing in front of a television, Teavee taps his foot to the synthetic rhythm of the game's music. One hand slides smoothly back and forth over the artificial frets, pressing buttons instead of strings and strumming on a clicking switch. He lifts the fake guitar (right angle? thinks Charlie) and the screen screeches with excited noise. Faster, faster; his fingers flit across the controls as easily as if he'd been practicing forever. Earlier that day, Charlie'd watched him buy the thing after a frantic hunt through countless, useless stores; he couldn't remember any time his family had spent that much money on a whim.
"You're pretty good at that," he notes as the music flares.
Mike grins but doesn't stop or turn around. "Heh, thanks. Playing on Expert mode after four hours is anything but craptacular."
Charlie shifts on the bed and rests his chin on an upturned palm. "Don't you want to have a real one?"
The song finishes with a reverberating succession of slams on the whammy bar. Scoffing, Mike sends him a skeptical stare over one shoulder.
"Anyone can play guitar."
