I don't own Mona Lisa Smile, but I do love it. And I think Giselle and Elizabeth should be a couple.
---
Giselle looked up from her newspaper article as the sound of tired feet met her ears. Elizabeth appeared framed in the tiny doorway of the living room, the image of exhaustion, with her eyes half-shut and her body swaying dangerously.
Getting up, Giselle sighed. "Tired?"
She held out her arms to welcome her roommate home, but instead found herself lunging forward to steady the teetering form as it fell. Quickly grabbing Elizabeth around her waist, she steadied both of them. "I'll take that as a 'yes'."
Elizabeth looked up and smiled weakly. "Sorry," she whispered. Giselle kissed her on the forehead.
"You okay?"
The blonde head bounced up and down, stopped, then shook from side to side slowly. "I said some really mean things to one of my classmates today."
Smiling, Giselle squeezed her shoulder. "That's okay. You're a lawyer now. You get paid to say mean things."
"I'm not a lawyer," said Elizabeth, rubbing her eyes. "Yet."
"You'll be a judge someday." Giselle slung one arm around her friend's shoulder as they made their way to the couch. "It'll be great. You'll get to sit up in that high chair all day and play God..."
She felt Elizabeth's head on her shoulder, and her arm across her chest.
"Giselle?"
"Yea?" She brought the arm around Elizabeth's shoulder to the top her head, wrapping her other arm across them both.
"Will you be there, when I'm playing God?" Her voice squeaked a little.
Giselle stroked her friend's hair affectionately. "You bet."
"Even if I'm a mean person?" Her voice was almost inaudible.
"I told you, that's your job now." She planted a peck on Elizabeth's cheek. "Don't ever stop being you."
