Inheriting the Euphonium
Once upon a time she tried to escape the euphonium but it hung on tight to her and refused to let go. It was like there was a stamp on her forehead or numbers floating above her head or a string tied to her fingers and they demanded she played the euphonium and it was written everywhere on her and on her fate
And she loved it and hated it and loved it again and fell and in out of love like a school girl years older than her and maybe that's why she wound up indifferent, for a while – but she loved the euphonium and love was a powerful weapon, a powerful tool and it smote the hate into pieces and it helped that the weapon had hands other than her own to wield it.
There was another euphonium player and she hated her and grew to love her as well.
She was too beautiful and yet she was a silver who never grew to gold: she chose to be a silver in the face of all those people who strove to be gold and that wasn't fair, that she had the ability but didn't reach it, didn't even strive to reach it while other people bled
But she was bleeding in her own way too and when she began to understand, she began to love as well
Just as she began to love the euphonium again.
