The idea for this one shot is somehow based on the White Stripes´ amazing song of the same name which tells the story of the best but still worst thing you can do for the one you love. Go check it out if you want to.
Oh, and unfortunately I do neither own Victorious nor the White Stripes. Two really great things that already ended/will end soon.
"…1…"
There was one thing Beck Oliver had never told her about. It happened about two weeks ago.
"…2…"
It was Saturday night and they were lying cuddled up in his RV, Jade was almost asleep already. He was watching her. Wanna stay with me forever?
"…3…"
This came out of nowhere. And it startled him. Sure, they had been dating for about three years now but still you just didn´t ask something like that. So he didn´t, for sure. "What!?" she murmured half asleep as she felt his eyes on her. "Nothing" he smiled. "I love you, babe." Still, from that day on everything was different.
"…4…"
Fear. Constant fear was accompanying him now. Him, Beck Oliver, who never was afraid of anything. He didn´t know what he was afraid of exactly.
"…5…"
Wanna stay with me forever? It was these words that scared him that much. It was what they meant. Even though he had never thought of being with anyone else, forever was a long time. What if she said no. If she didn´t wanna stay with him, if she didn´t think of the same things? Or even worse if she wanted to. Maybe they messed up. Maybe they wouldn´t be happy. Everyone knew they were arguing at least once a day about the most stupid things. What if he couldn´t make her happy. She was quite hard to satisfy. Maybe she would be better off alone. And anyways why was he thinking about stuff like that? They were only seventeen.
"…6…"
Every time they would make out or even more now his thoughts were somewhere else. He seemed to slip away from her. She noticed a slight difference what made her even more insecure and therefore more irritable than usually. But every time she would pick a fight know he wouldn´t calm her down like he used to, he just let her do it. Even their friends noticed a difference in their behavior. All these things were the reason why Beck started to think he might be right. They were fighting all the time. He couldn´t make her happy.
And now they were standing her.
"…7…"
No. He loved her. He wanted to be with her forever.
"…8…"
He reached for the door.
"…9…"
But he didn´t open it.
"…10!"
Over.
Wouldn´t it be just amazing if that was the true reason for Beck acting like a complete jerk? I like to believe that it just IS like this. Tell me if you think the same and if you liked the story, if you want to.
Fact you might find interesting #1: I first wanted Beck´s question to be "Do you wanna marry me?" but than thought it was a little too heavy so i changed it.
Fymfi #2: I was playing with the numbers and the following words a little bit. Wonder if anybody has noticed?
Whatever.
