It Was Just a Child's Game

"Susan, please remember. You have to remember. Please."

"It was just a child's game."

"No, it wasn't. You were Susan, the Gentle. I was Peter, the Magnificent. Edmund was the Just. And Lucy was-"

"The Valiant. I know, you've told me thousands of times."

"Then, why don't you remember?"

"Because Ed, it was just a stupid game we played when we were children."

"Why don't you remember?!"

"Edmund, calm down."

"No! I won't calm down! She won't remember!"

"That's because it was a game! Now why don't you all grow up?"

A loud silence filled the room. Everything was still. Unmoving.

"Please tell me you remember Aslan? The Great Lion? Aslan," whispered Lucy.

"Just leave me alone, Lu. All of you. Just leave me alone," Susan said, defiantly.

Then, only the sharp, subtle sound of Susan's chair scraping on the dark, wooden floor as she got up and left the room. The wooden floor that reminded the Pevensie siblings of the Wardrobe through which they had met talking animals, wielded swords and met the most magnificent, just and valiant lion in their lives.
