The snow fell softly down around them as they stood in the center of the park, near the frozen fountain. The ground was covered in white, and the sky was grey. A few patches of green showed through the ivory landscape, as the dark green of the pine trees managed to avoid being completely buried under the falling flakes, unlike the shredded and shattered metal that was scattered across the floor, still smoking. Streaks of red were hidden by the snow, fading away under the pristine white.

He stood there, ignoring the snow as it fell on his cobalt blue fur, and kept his arms tight around her protectively, looking past her and into the blizzard ahead, alert for the sounds of any more danger. The snow had stung slightly as it fell on the cuts on his arms at first, but now he was oblivious to it.

She kept as close pressed to him as she could, clinging to him tightly and pressing her face against his chest. It had been dangerous at first, but now the robots were gone, she had no intention of letting him go. She could feel old scars under his fur, knowing just how he'd got them. The ones her face was resting against, those had been gained when he'd saved her the first time that they'd met. She had followed him around since then, knowing she was probably being an annoyance, but he'd never gone his full speed to get away. She'd started to believe that he only liked her as a friend. That's why she'd asked him to meet her here. She'd wanted to ask him, to know for certain. And she hadn't really expected him to come.

The robots had turned up. And seconds later he'd come too. One had gone for her, and he'd jumped right in the path of the attack, taking the claws on his arm. Most of the fight, he'd been defending her. He always defended her. There was no explanation as to why the robots were there, but he didn't need an explanation to knock them to pieces. And he didn't need an explanation to defend her.

His body relaxed when he'd finally decided that no more robots were coming, and she sighed. This was it. He was going to let go and dart off, the way he always had. She lessened her grip on him so that he could go if he wanted. But instead she felt his chin rest on the top of her head, and heard a quiet sigh. She pulled back slightly so that she could look up at him, and he raised a hand to brush some of the snow from the top of her pink furred head. His emerald eyes stared softly into her jade ones and she smiled slightly. Maybe she'd ask him now.

"Sonic… Do you…" she took a deep breath, and sighed. Now or never. It was now or never to ask him. "Do you… Love me…? Tell me honestly…"

"… Amy…"

He held her tighter to him again, and she felt she knew the answer. She smiled to herself and pressed her cheek into his fur again, as he rested his head on hers once more.
