This is my first attempt at a songfic, it is set to Bryan Adams' song 'Have you ever really loved a woman?' its more Galexy slush seen from Gene's POV around the time he shot Alex and what happened after, let me know what you think!!!
I dont own Ashes to Ashes, any characters mentioned or the lyrics to 'Have you ever really loved a woman?'
Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman?
To really love a woman, to understand her, you gotta know her deep inside, hear every thought, see every dream and give her wings when she wants to fly, and when you find yourself lying helpless in her arms you know you really love a woman
It came as a surprise to Gene Hunt when he realised he was, for the very first time, in love. The instant he caught sight of Alex Drake, he knew he was caught……….hook, line and sinker. It took the two of them a long while to discover it but they were a perfect pair, they fitted together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, connected on all levels, although in the early days her incessant ramblings gave him cause for concern but they were so infrequent now that he didn't even notice.
When you love a woman you tell her that's she's really wanted, when you love a woman you tell her that she's the one, she needs somebody to tell her that its gonna last forever, so tell me have you ever really, really, really ever loved a woman?
It wasn't until he was sat by her hospital bed that he figured out his feelings for Alex. He had shot her, though unintentionally, and he was racked with unbearable guilt and an overwhelming fear that he was about to lose the one person he cared about before he could tell her. He couldn't get his head around all the rubbish she had spouted at him in his office before he had suspended her from duty but right now none of that mattered, he wanted her well again, he wanted to hold her, kiss her, make love to her, he just hoped she felt the same.
To really love a woman, let her hold you, do you know how she needs to be touched? You gotta breathe her, really taste her, till you can feel her in your blood, then when you see your unborn children in her eyes you know you really love a woman
It was over a year since his beautiful Alex had woken up from the coma that Gene had inadvertently put her in. On her discharge from hospital, he had taken her to his place to re-cooperate, she had protested but he felt responsible and wanted to make amends, he also wanted to be close to her. It was soon apparent that they were becoming more than just friends and the first time they tentatively kissed it was obvious there was no going back. At work he was still the brutish Gene Genie, sexist and rude but at home with Alex he was soft, gentle, attentive, he may have been turning into a soft Nancy but he didn't mind, all that mattered was he was happy.
As he crept into the lounge, illuminated only by the flickering of the TV in the corner, he could make out the silhouette of Alex curled up asleep on the sofa, since the accident she had stopped talking about 'going home' and about 'Molly', her alleged daughter though Gene didn't dwell on any of that, he had more important things to think of, he approached his sleeping beauty and gently kissed the top of her head, she stirred slightly, he moved his hand to her stomach and tenderly stroked the small bump there, his baby, a baby they were both so excited about. Life was good for Mr and Mrs Hunt.
When you love a woman, you tell her that she's really wanted, when you love a woman you tell her that she's the one, she needs somebody to tell her that you'll always be together, so tell me have you ever really, really, really ever loved a woman?
