Summary: Q) Where are Ron and Hermione when Harry's in danger? A) Scared out of their wits in the hospital. Whenever Harry is in hospital, Ron and Hermione are sat there. Waiting.
Although I will be tying some years together as there is not too much to write about, the chapters may still be quite short. It depends. I will try to be as long as I can though, without being boring and verbose :)
Scolander: So, Kwidditch has only written the first chapter to this but over the next few days I'll be able to write the next one on the train or something on phone as I'm going to the far side of London which is a good hour's journey.
Year One
Meeting Professor Dumbledore as they hurried back to owl him was probably one of the best moments in both their lives, as well as a cause for concern. Well, if Dumbledore was worried, and he certainly looked anxious, what on Earth did he think had happened to Harry? They decided to go up to the hospital wing to wait, as they assumed that was where Harry would have to go. They obviously hoped that he wouldn't have to, but they knew that Snape was a powerful wizard; he had to be, to be a teacher, and if Harry did indeed meet Voldemort... They both hoped that Harry's luck would hold.
After what seemed like hours, though was of course, in fact, minutes, Dumbledore came hurrying up the stairs, faster than either of them had ever seen him move, hovering a stretcher. With Harry on it. Or the next few days they rarely moved from the chairs outside the hospital wing. Madame Pomfrey insisted that he needed peace and quiet, and however much they tried to persuade her that they wouldn't disturb him, the healer was adamant that no one should be admitted into the hospital.
Whenever they stepped back into the Gryffindor Common Room, or, indeed, pretty much any other part of the school, they were swamped by requests of what really happened through the trapdoor, and were constantly being asked how Harry was. As one day went past, then the second, then the third, Ron and Hermione were getting more and more worried. Three days seemed like an awfully long time to be asleep, and they still didn't know what had really happened.
The thing that really surprised them, though, was that they saw Snape several times since Harry's return, and they had not seen Quirrell once. Had Snape managed to pin it on Quirrell, then? Or – what was the unthinkable – was it not Snape who had tried to steal the Philosopher's Stone. They rejected that idea almost immediately; after all, who else would it have been. Not the ever stuttering Professor Quirrell, surely?
Finally, on the evening of the third day, they noticed Dumbledore receive a note at the High Table where all the teachers sat, and he swept out of the room. Assuming it was something to do with Harry they followed him right up to the hospital wing. They watched helplessly as the doors closed behind him, and knew they were right. But was it for better or for worse?
Their relief cam as soon as Dumbledore stepped out of the wing – he was smiling. They both ran up to him immediately to ask whether they could go and see Harry, but he shook his head. "That is up to Madame Pomfrey," he said, and walked away. They couldn't believe their ears, but continued waiting outside the doors anyway. Their patience was rewarded, Madame Pomfrey let them in eventually. "But five minutes only," she warned, although they couldn't care less. Harry was looking well, or, wellish, and that was all that mattered. Hermione could barely restrain herself from hugging him. Little did they know that this was not the last time that they would see Harry in the hospital Wing.
