20. Belief

One of the most debated facts in recent human history – or perhaps in all of human history, is whether or not there is a 'One'. Someone who, when you see them, lights you up, changes you, makes you better, makes you jealous and stupid and deliriously happy all at once. Someone who, in your eyes at the very least, is perfect in almost every way.

Romance novelists are mostly believed to be the only people who still think this is completely true. Harry Potter believes it as well, though. And that's because he found the One when he was sixteen. She makes his stomach do acrobatics, she adores him and of course, since he's playing the hero in this story, he had to leave her.

But he still believes – Harry is utterly and completely convinced that he'll come home, triumphant, and there the girl will be, waiting for him with open arms and a kiss. No matter how long it takes, she's the One, she can't just leave, not if she felt it too – that is the other criteria of true love, that you can't really leave, no matter what, no matter how nasty the whole thing gets. No matter how much you want to, no matter how far away you go, you can never really leave. There is a part of you within that person, and it's a magnetic attraction, you can stay away, but you'll have to come back.

Harry believes in magic, in true love, and in the One.

Harry would make a most excellent romance novelist.
