This is the end of the line, of the world, of life as we know it.

His eyes are crazed and angry like a dog that has been kicked until it snaps. Blood pours out of them. Too many unkind deeds the world has bestowed upon my best friend and rival. I must end this before the hunter-nin come. The thought of one of them killing Sasuke without ever knowing who he was or why he did this is too much for me to bear.

I knew it would end like this. We face off just as we did when we were children at the Valley of the End. But we are no longer children. We will fight and die just as millions of men and women have before. There is no Sakura or Kakashi here to stop us. This will end with us. Maybe Peace will come, maybe not.

This spot is not a sacred spot. Doubtless blood has been spilled here before, but without anyone left to remember their story does it mean anything? People could have died here with their lifeblood staining the very spot where we now stand; best friends could have fought to the death, but we would never know. In a few years, will anyone remember us?

I'm sorry I never became Hokage, but really who deserves to protect an entire village with people who have dreams and lives if they can't even save their best friend?

"Naruto!" His scream is enough to break the heavens open. Rain begins to fall.

"Sasuke!" My voice no longer cracks as it did at the Valley of the End.

Chidori meets Rasengan. The sky cracks into a million pieces. They fall with our broken bodies to the unforgiving ground.

"Naru..to.." A broken smile exaggerated by the line of blood at the corner of his mouth.

"Sasu..ke.." My laugh breaks off in a fit of coughing as blood fills my lungs.

We stay like that staring into each other's eyes until the ANBU captain closes them.

I've got one friend
laying across form me
I did not choose him
He did not choose me
We've got no chance of recovery

Put out the fire boys
Don't stop, don't stop
Put out the fire on us
Put out the fire boys
Don't stop, don't stop
Put out the fire on us

Bring the buckets by the dozens
Bring your nieces and your cousins
Come put out the fire on us
