Just a short drabble on what Max and Mike were thinking after meeting for the first time. Enjoy!
Max all but slammed the door behind Mike Weston after he left her office. The more she thought about him, the angrier she became. It was good to meet you, Max, she could hear him say on his way out. Good to meet you too, you ass, she wanted to spit back.
How dare he come to her and try to tell her how to act with Ryan? Really, who did he think he was? He knew nothing about their relationship, their work. And he should know that Hardy's don't respond to intimidation, so why did he even bother in the first place?
Because he cared about Ryan too, she admitted. As angry as she was with him for trying to force her hand, she respected that. Ryan had spoken about Weston before in good light, and she knew that her uncle really respected the younger agent. Actually, she really didn't need his introduction at all. Yes, she recognized him from his work with the case, but she also knew the man Ryan talked about whenever he opened up about his last encounters with Joe Carroll on rare occasion. So yes, she knew who Mike Weston was, on paper and off of it.
Anger flared up in her again as she restarted her computer. He brought up the Hardy death curse. He really pushed it too far there. Max scoffed as she thought how that conversation would have gone if he tried it with Ryan. Weston probably would have gotten what was coming to him – a good punch to the face.
His face. Without realizing it, her mind drifted to Agent Mike Weston in a different way. She'd never given it much thought before, but she found herself thinking that the pictures she had seen before didn't do him much justice. And she'd be lying if she didn't find him a little attractive.
Okay, really attractive. She leaned back in her chair and took a deep breath, deciding to let herself think about him one last time before she ignored it and moved on with her work. He was passionate when he spoke, and she was definitely aware of how close he was standing to her as he left and his hand on hers when he forced her to put down the phone. The way he filled out the leather jacket and dark jeans he was wearing with his piercing blue eyes did nothing to help her remember that she was supposed to dislike him.
She thought again to his words before he left. Good to meet you, Max. Maybe it was pretty good after all.
Mike sighed as he sat in the driver's seat of his car outside the NYPD precinct. That had gone about how he had expected (she was a Hardy after all), but at least he tried.
Perplexed, Mike sat in his car a while longer before starting it. Max certainly wasn't what he had expected. Ryan had mentioned her before very briefly a long time ago, but he knew virtually nothing about her until he found something with her name on it in Ryan's "shrine to all things Joe Carroll." Walking into her office was quite the shock.
Not that he knew what he was expecting either, but it certainly wasn't the tall, thin, beautiful, strong woman he met. He did a double take when he first saw her, but schooled himself immediately. He was there to talk about Ryan, not to look at a beautiful woman. No harm in thinking about it later though, right?
Wrong! He thought. She was Ryan's niece! What the hell was he thinking? Yeah sure, she's beautiful, intelligent, and daring, but she was also a stubborn, rebellious, and reserved Hardy. And it's not like they got off on the best foot anyway. Thinking about her as more than Ryan's niece who was assisting him in obstruction of justice was inappropriate.
He shook his head as he started the engine and pulled off of the curb. Regardless, it was good to meet finally meet Max Hardy.
Ta da! Like I said, really short, but I wanted to put a little more to what might have been going through their heads after meeting each other. Please leave me a review!
