'Duh!' Moment
Ella POV
"Hey, Iggy, it's me. Open up." I said into the closed door of the boys' bedroom and continued knocking.
I remembered how Iggy hates sharing a room with "Dr. Doom"—aka Fang—and "Sir Stinks A Lot"—aka Gazzy. But that's what had to happen when the flock decided to—temporarily—move in with my mom and I. All the boys share a room, Max, Nudge, and I share a room, and Angel bunks with my mom. Total has a spot out in the living room with Akila and Magnolia, and often refers to himself as a "ladies man."
The bedroom door opened and the first thing I saw was Iggy's light strawberry blond hair. "What's up?" He asks and clears his throat.
"Hey, I was just wondering if you still wanted to go to my school dance with me."
"Yea, definitely. I said I would go, and I still want to go. So…I'm going…with you." He said awkwardly.
"Oh, um, I was just asking…in case you changed your mind."
"Nope."
We stood in an awkward silence for exactly fourteen seconds. I counted.
"Okay, well, um," I spoke up, "I guess I'll go get ready then. Mom says we'll need to leave in an hour."
"Cool. Can't wait."
"Cool." I whispered through exhaling and walked away into my room, closing the door behind me.
I couldn't stop grinning as the information sank in. I'm going to the school dance with Iggy.
Out of nowhere, I broke out dancing with joy. No music, no anything, just pure bliss.
Corny, ey? Well, that went on for about thirty seconds.
My happiness came to an abrupt hault as a question popped into my head…What will I wear?
I basically ran over to the closet, almost tripping once, and yanked—and I mean yanked—the doors open. My eyes scanned every article of clothing in that closet.
Should I wear a t-shirt and a skirt? A nice sweater and dress pants, a blouse, perhaps?
Ooh! A dress! But…which one? I own, like, seven!
Well, here's a dress with short sleeves, but I don't look too good in orange. Um, how about this one? Nah, halter-tops are out of style. This one? Ew! What was I thinking when I bought that one? Oh, that's right…it was a gift from Grandma Martinez, who else would buy such an ugly flower pattern?
Running out of dresses here!
Just then, Max walked in the door. She had taken one step in the room and tripped on a dress I had thrown behind me. As she fell, she cursed loudly and then hit the ground face first.
"Ella!" She yelled angrily into the ground.
"Sorry, sorry!" I ran over to help her. I grabbed her arm and pulled her up.
"What's going on in here? Angel said you were panicking about dresses, and that she'll have that ugly flower patterned dress if you don't want it."
"She can have it. But I've been trying to find something to wear to the dance tonight."
"Yea, Ig told me about that. He's excited."
My heart fluttered, "Really?"
"Yep." She popped her mouth on the "p."
"Now I'm even more nervous about what I'm going to wear! Thanks, Max!" I said sarcastically. I grabbed the remaining four dresses from my closet and held them out for Max. "Which one do you think Iggy would like best?"
"Um…Ella?" She gave me a questioning look.
I gave her the same look back. "Yea?"
"Aren't you forgetting something?"
"Like what?"
"Like the fact that Iggy's blind."
I frowned, "Oh. Right."
