"You'll make me your queen one day, right?" Arthur asked excitedly.
"Oui." Francis answered his younger friend,
"Quit it! You know that I don't understand that language!" Arthur whined.
"I'm sorry. I said yes in French." Francis answered with ease and grace.
"Okay. Promise me?" Arthur asked.
"I promise you, mon petit lapin." Francis promised.
"Okay." Little Arthur's face lit up with a smile.
Little did they know that Francis wouldn't be the one to break that promise first.
Arthur while youngest of the two friends was the first to get married.
Alfred had came, and swept him off his feet before Francis had even become king.
Alfred was hyperactive and cheerful; he also gave off a childish air as well as believed that he had to love his queen.
The soon to be king proposed, and Arthur said, "Yes."
It hadn't been too much of a big deal at the time aside from the fact that Arthur was marrying royalty; he was marrying his kingdom's prince right before they would be crowned King and Queen of the Spades Kingdom.
It became a big deal after Francis was crowned King Of Diamonds, and had taken a pretty and young woman has his queen.
That hurt Arthur more than it should of; they had both moved on with their lives, right?
"Arthur?" Francis asked in a whisper the first time that they had seen each other after they had been made queen and king of different kingdoms.
"Yes?" Arthur asked while he tried to focus on what his king was saying about peace in the kingdoms.
"Why did you marry King Alfred?" Francis's voice sounded broken yet curious.
"He asked, and he was about to be my king, so I said yes." Arthur's voice lowered.
"We are fools, aren't we?" Francis murmured.
"How so?" Arthur's eyes were focused on his king.
"We broke our promise, and married people that we don't love." Francis answered the question with the ease and grace that he always seemed to possess.
"You still remember that?" Arthur was surprised as he had forgotten when Alfred had proposed to him.
"Oui. I proposed first, remember?" Francis whispered, and accepted Lilli's hand when she reached for it.
"I remember." Arthur grumbled bitterly.
Things had certainly changed in time as Alfred's affair with The Queen Of Hearts hit the news, and the upcoming divorce of The Spade Queen and King was announced.
Arthur was surprised by Francis showing up at his door with flowers, and offering comfort as friends; he seemed to know that Arthur was hurting too much to want a relationship at the moment.
Shortly after the divorce, Francis stepped down from kinghood, and gave his power over to his pregnant queen and the Jack of the kingdom.
He stayed nearby for awhile though to check up on Lilli, and to be there for the birth of their heir and future King.
Francis married Arthur and moved away to a small cabin in the middle of the woods to avoid publicity.
Alfred and Kiku got married, and Jack Feliciano married his King.
The missing brother of Alfred's was found with a wife and a son; the son became the heir to the Spades' throne while King Ludwig's brother's baby that he had had with the Queen of Clubs before she had become queen became the heir to the Hearts Kingdom.
