Moving On
*Sam and Jason each have a daughter from a previous relationship and Sam just gave birth to their first daughter together.
Her tiny fingertips reached out and brushed across his cheek. Her eyes were closed and her little face was still pink. She had one tiny foot poking out from under the blanket that was gently kicking his leg. He brushed the dark curls away from her forehead before lightly kissing it. She was 7 pounds, 5 ounces of pure perfection.
"First baby?" the older nurse asked him.
"Yes." He managed to say. First biological baby with his fiancée, anyway.
"Amazing, isn't it? Just helps you realize what is good in the world." Jason nodded and she smiled before leaving, letting him have his privacy.
"You wanna see Mommy, don't you? Let's tell the nurse and then we will." He put his precious baby back in the bassinet. The nurse approved the visit, so he wheeled her to Sam's room.
"Someone would like to see you." Sam looked up with a smile. She was glowing. "Look, baby girl. It's Mama."
"Hi Angel." Sam took the newborn. "Jason, look at what we made."
"I know, she's gorgeous. Just like her mother and sisters."
"Speaking of sisters, where are the girls?"
"With Carly for tonight, and tomorrow if that's what we want."
"Okay." She ran a finger across the baby's cheek. "What are we going to name out little princess?"
"Our mothers were trying to talk us into Lexington."
"Yeah, but Lexington Morgan? It just sounds kind of strange."
"Carly liked Maverick."
"Do they realize she's a girl? Lexington and Maverick both sound kind of boyish." Sam told him. "Edward told me we should name her Sterling Quartermaine Morgan."
"Quartermaine as a middle name? No. Maxie liked Charlene with the nickname Charlie. That's not too bad. And Josslyn liked Princess Josslyn."
"I don't know. Kristina suggested Madelie. Molly insisted on Juliet after Romeo and Juliet. Michael liked Hadley and Morgan said Yankee would be the perfect name. Sonny was hoping for River Malia."
"You can't forget Spinelli's name. Stone for Stone Cold." Both of them started laughing. "So if we go by our family's suggestions, our daughter will be named Lexington, Maverick, Sterling, Charlene, Princess Josslyn, Madelie, Juliet, Hadley, Yankee, River, or Stone."
"Don't forget the girls' suggestions. Cinderella, Snow White, Aurora, Story, Fairy Tale, Scarlett, and Dorothy."
"Fairy Tale Morgan. That has a nice little ring." Jason joked. Sam punched him in the arm. "Let me guess. Scarlett and Dorothy came from Lila, didn't they."
"She likes Gone with the Wind and the Wizard of Oz. Oh, and I forgot Amelia's suggestion. Optimus Prime."
"That still doesn't narrow it down. Plus our list of names." He gave Sam a piece of paper.
"Shelby, Skylar, Charlotte, Isabella, Nathalie, Ashlyn, Cadence, Georgia, Stella, and Kinley."
The door opened and Monica, Alexis, Kristina, and Molly entered.
"Where's Mimi's new grandbaby?" Alexis asked.
"Right here." They gathered around the bed, gazing at the baby.
"She's very beautiful." Monica whispered.
"What's her name? Madelie Kristina Morgan, I hope." Kristina pushed.
"We're still deciding." Sam ran a finger over her daughter's cheek.
"They should match with Amelia Grace and Lila Eden." Molly reminded her older sister.
"That doesn't really narrow it down. There are so many names in the world." Kristina stated.
"And we're going to have to choose just one." Sam looked at her newborn. "What's your name, baby girl?"
"Well how did you choose Lila?"
"For Jason's grandmother." Sam smiled up at her fiancé. "We weren't even together but as soon as she died, I knew that I wanted to honor her. I asked Jason and he agreed, so we picked Lila. I chose Eden just because I liked it."
"What about you, Jason? How did you pick Amelia?"
"I didn't." Jason looked at the younger girl. "Amelia's mother, Courtney, chose it right before she passed away. She said it would be the perfect name, and that Grace sounded beautiful with it. She told me that if I didn't like it then I could change it, but how do you tell your dying wife that you don't like the name she chose? I thought it was pretty, so I wrote it on her birth certificate and it stuck."
"How did you guys even end up together? Your history is so complicated that no one can remember." Kristina stated.
"I needed someone to help me take care of Amelia. Courtney had just died, and I still had to work for your father."
"And I needed some money." Sam picked up. "I was trying to get away from my abusive boyfriend, Lila's biological father, and take care of my brother, Danny, all at the same time. So when I passed through Port Charles and saw a nanny job, I thought that it would be easy. I helped take care of Amelia, then I gave birth to Lila. Six years later, I would say it ended pretty well."
"It hasn't ended, sweetie. This is just the beginning." Alexis kissed her daughter's forehead. "She's very beautiful."
"She definitely is." Sam agreed. "Jase, can you call Carly and have her bring the girls? I need to see them."
"Good thing because we're already here!" Carly came into the hospital room with 6 year old Amelia and 5 year old Lila.
"Mommy!" Lila and Amelia ran to the bed, standing at the side.
The older of the two took over while Carly, Alexis, Kristina, and Molly excused themselves, giving the family time to be together. "Is this our new sister?"
"Yes it is."
Jason lifted up the girls so they could sit on either side of their mother and see the new baby. They stared at her in awe.
"What's her name?" Lila whispered.
"We're not sure yet. We need you guys to help us decide."
"Well she's definitely too pretty to be Optimus Prime." Amelia stated.
"Or Dorothy." Lila agreed. "Mama, what names do you and Daddy like?"
"Shelby, Skylar, Charlotte, Isabella, Nathalie, Ashlyn, Cadence, Georgia, Stella, and Kinley."
"Not Shelby or Nathalie." Lila immediately objected.
"Or Skylar and Ashlyn." Amelia threw in.
"How do you feel about Charlotte, Isabella, Cadence, Georgia, Stella, and Kinley?"
"I think that Isabella, Cadence, and Kinley don't sound right with Lila and Amelia. Their names are kind of classic sounding to me, and those three are a bit too trendy." Jason said. Sam stared at him in shock. "Oh God, I've been spending way too much time with Maxie."
"Then that leaves us with Charlotte, Georgia, and Stella." Sam studied her daughter. "But those names don't fit."
"How about Danielle?" Amelia suggested. "It's kind of like Uncle Danny's name. She could be named after him."
Sam and Jason looked to each other, wondering how she had thought of that. "Amelia, where did you hear that name?"
"I don't know. Lila's named after Grandmother Lila, so I thought maybe this baby could be named after someone too."
"What do you think, Li?" Sam asked, although she already knew that it was the perfect name.
"It's pretty!"
"What should her middle name be?"
"Rose!" Lila quickly said.
Sam smiled. "What do you think, baby? Are you Danielle Rose Morgan?" the baby opened her eyes and they met Sam's immediately. "It looks like you are."
Sam and Jason had had a rough time with the pregnancy. They had both been so caught up in the past- Sam with wondering if her ex-boyfriend, Nico, would ever come back for Lila, Jason with hoping that Amelia wouldn't resent Sam for taking Courtney's place in her life. But sitting here together in the tiny hospital room, they knew that Danielle would bring them closer together, not further apart.
"I love you, girls." Sam kissed Lila's forehead, then Amelia's.
"Love you too, Mommy." Amelia looked at her. "Will this be our last baby sister?"
Jason lifted up his oldest child. "Not if I have anything to say about it. I think you girls need a little brother."
"Can I at least get this one out of the hospital first?" Sam said with a smile.
Amelia looked innocently at her father. "Can we name him Optimus Prime?"
Sam and Jason just laughed, glad that they had their little family.
