A/N: Just a little 334 word Korrasami oneshot. I actually got the idea while lying in bed. I felt a vein in my neck pulsing with my heartbeat and my thoughts went all the-meaning-of-life serious. It takes place during the season 1 finale, before General Iroh (a.k.a. Irohman) and his ships arrived. Enjoy and please R&R!

It was as if time stood still, the calm world around them all fast asleep except for them. Neither girl could admit out loud why they were there, curled up together lying against Naga, reveling in the warmth the polar bear dog radiated. The look the two shared when Asami crawled over and lay down beside her said it all; Asami was afraid of what may come over the next few days, and so was Korra. So Korra welcomed Asami without hesitation, wrapping her arms around her in a heartwarming embrace. The feather light kiss placed on Asami's forehead caused the barest hint of a sad smile to come to her lips. Unbeknownst to the other members of Team Avatar, both girls harbored feelings for the other that on occasion they hesitantly acted upon. Neither knew just why they tried to push those feelings back, but they did.

Now was not one of those times, as Asami reached up and placed a soft kiss on Korra's neck. It was sobering, the feeling of the pulsing vein beneath her lips, its steady rhythm, and the realization that no matter how strong they were, they're still human, and that makes them vulnerable. It makes them vulnerable to emotions like fear, or pain. Despite not being a bender, Asami could imagine the pain Korra would suffer if she lost her bending. It would be like there was a hole in your heart, like a part of your soul was ripped away, like the way she felt when she lost her mother. Asami shivered at the thought, causing Korra to hold her even tighter.

Time became meaningless to the two girls as they lay together in silence, not a word spoken between them. Accompanied by the quiet sounds of the night, the frantic, scared pulsing of their hearts began to slow as they both drifted into a fretful sleep, nothing able to quell the fears they both had about what was to come along with tomorrow's rising sun.
