Ludwig couldn't stand it, watching his brother, who knelt by the end of the bed with a broken smile on his face. It only been days before it happened.
"Birdie.. Vhy aren't du singing?" the Prussian asked, his voice cracked and full with sadness and depression.
Nothing.
"Birdie, Vhy aren't du Chirping?" he asked again another question, trying hard to push back the desperate need to hear that voice, trying hard to stop sounding so pitiful.
Silents.
Ludwig walked slowly to his older brother, who was shaking madly. He placed his hand on his brother's shoulder and let his eyes drifted to the proclaimed 'Birdie' on the bed.
There on the bed, laid a fragile blonde male. His face peaceful, but his skin sick pale, as if he had lost all colors. His wavy dirty blonde hair fell around his head like a halo, you couldn't tell if the boy was either a girl or not.
Ludwig let his eyes travel the boy until it stopped at a small clip board that was laid on the side of the boy.
Patient's Name: Matthew Williams
Age: 17
Date of Death: Wednesday, February 5, 2014
Cause of Death: Rheumatic fever
Ludwig stopped reading it silently to himself as his stared at his brother who started shaking Matthew's arm.
" Mattie, Mattie, Mattie… Come on.. Wake up.. Birdie du need to get up. Birdie, du need to fly now. Du need to call up the sun and watch it rise to your shining face! The flowers are waiting to hear your voice; the animals are waiting to hear Du chirp." Gilbert said, now roughly shaking the Canadian's arm. "The people are waiting to see your beauty; the sky is waiting to see you fly… I am waiting for you to come back to feel your warmth."
…
The larger man could understand, his brother's lover had just died and it was taking a toll on him. But he knew it wouldn't last. He knew Gilbert too well. He knew his brother would do anything to be reunited with his lover. Anything, even if it meant death to himself.
"Birdie.."
...
" Birdie"
...
" Bird-" Gilbert was cut off by someone grasping his shoulder. The Prussian stared up to see his younger brother, who was shaking his head. " Du need to set him free.. and it's time for us to go." he said softly.
Gilbert did nothing. he did not move, nor show any signs of getting up. He couldn't let go of his only birdie. He couldn't say good bye. No, No, non, non. He needed his birdie, His love, His sunshine, his air to breathe. Nothing in this world now matter to him. He had nothing to live for.
Emotionless, he stood up. " Wait for me.. Wait for me by the gates of the stars. When i come we will explore it together. We will travel the sky and watch down on earth in each others arms. Wait for me.. I'll be there.." he whispered to nothing. What was the point of living now? Soon.. Soon he will be with his bride. In the sky.
