Perseverance

Disclaimer: Most of the time I don't like Tezuka, sometimes I do. Maybe that's why I don't own him. He senses my indecision.

Fuji Syuusuke was a genius. He was also very shrewd. He knew what he wanted and he generally got it with very little trouble. Except for this. There was one thing, or rather one person, that Fuji wanted. To have, to control, and to be his completely.

That person was one Tezuka Kinumitsu.

Unfortunately for Fuji, and fortunately for Tezuka, the captain of Seigaku's tennis team was not stupid. He knew what Fuji was like. Knew him better than anyone, with the exception perhaps of Kikumaru, and he knew that Fuji was after him. What he didn't know, was whether Fuji was just interested because Tezuka was considered unattainable, or whether the deceptively peaceful tensai was genuinely interested.

Tezuka mulled over this question for a long time. He was not immune to Fuji's considerable charms, but nor was he going to be another notch on the younger man's belt.

In the end, it was the chance to go to Germany to heal his arm that would be the deciding factor. Before he told the team of his decision to leave he sought out Fuji after practice.

"I'm going to Germany. For rehabilitation." Tezuka said in his usual expressionless tone. He watched as a flicker of surprise widened Fuji's eyes so that the crystal blue depths were visible for a moment.

"Saa… Are you planning to tell the rest of the team or am I special?" Fuji said, his voice as light as always, betraying nothing.

"Are you going to wait?" Was Tezuka's reply, ignoring Fuji's question. He also knew very well that Fuji knew what the real question behind those five innocent words was. Do you want me enough to wait however long it takes.

Fuji's smile widened and his eyes opened, showing his genuine pleasure. "Of course." His own hidden message drenched those words. For as long as it takes.

A small smile played around Tezuka's lips before he nodded and turned to leave. As he started to walk away Fuji's voice halted his steps.

"Are you going to wait?"

There was a moment of silence before Tezuka answered, his back still facing Fuji. "Of course."

And with those words. Fuji had won. He had obtained what he wanted. But no one had lost. Because Tezuka got what he wanted too.
