Ch:1

In the Beginning

Being a twin for me has never been easy. Being a doppelgänger twin…

Well first let me take you back to the beginning.

Before the plots and schemes. Before the betrayals began, reckless loves were prompted and ultimately ended in heart break.

Before the supernatural and their dealing decided to come into my life with reckless abandon.

I'll take you back, back when I was just a normal girl; with normal girl problems: School, gossiping with girlfriends, sibling rivalry and an abusive ex-boyfriend…but again I'm still getting ahead of myself.

Let's go back to the time my life began its mad spiral into hell.

The night my parents died.

The party was in full swing when I arrived. Practically the entire school was here.

I stood perfectly content with taking in the sight of my fellow peers gyrating their bodies against each other some better than others, while others consumed illegal amounts of alcohol.

My eyes scanned my surroundings wondering why I wasn't hearing the presumptuous whining from my best friend Caroline. I smiled softly knowing that when we found each other she was going to chew off my ear about all the underclassmen, nerds, geeks and losers that somehow found out the "exclusive" party.

"Faye!" Caroline sullen voice had me snapping my head towards her direction as she practically shoved pass byers away to stomp up to me a scowl present on her face.

"Care, you look great!" I said looking at the blue bondage dress and heeled sandals that brought out the blue in her eyes.

"I know right… but look at you, like oh my god, no words!" She said twirling me around. I had on a short strapless dress that looked like someone water painted flowers on it, with pastel pink peep toed heeled shoes. I had straightened my naturally curly hair letting it fall to the top of my backside.

"Ha, like I'd ever believe that." I said causing her to chuckle. "How long have you been here?"

Caroline's scowl returned. "Long enough to see a whole hell of a lot of uninvited guests. Honestly I just want to know how the hell these exclusive parties are becoming not so exclusive…"

I loved Caroline from the bottom of my heart but even I could admit that my best friend was quite a snob.

I had to admit it though… I loved to rile her up…by doing things like forwarding the address to most of the students at Mystic Falls High.

"Care its fine."

"No it's really not."

"Yes it is, think of this as a way for you to get the inside scope on people you don't normally talk too, the best part they won't remember divulging there darkest secrets because they were too drunk."

Her eyes blazed over at the idea of blackmail before locking back onto my own. "God I could kiss you."

"Hey now, if you did that the freshmen would no doubt die from the overdose of our sexiness." I said with a wink.

Caroline threw her head back laughing as we walked further into the party, students parting like the red sea for us.

"Why did I let you talk me into this again?" I asked her.

"Because you need this." She countered.

"Care I shouldn't even be here."

"Yes you should, you're single and ready to mingle."

I sighed but let her lead me towards the make shift dance floor. We danced until our feet were red before deciding it was then we needed to drown our stomachs with alcohol.

"God I've always hated your iron stomach." I laughed at her comment after tossing back another shot.

"I'm so gonna have a killer headache in the morning but it's so worth it." Caroline said as she too tossed back another shot.

"Maybe we should call it a night then." I said pausing in my drinking as I felt an almost searing gaze trained on my movements. I had been so lost in my fun; I had forgotten why I was apprehensive of coming to the party in the first place.

"No way, I'm going to drink until someone is hot enough to make out with!" Caroline cheered.

I shook my head at her words even as my eyes drifted around the area. I saw Matt and Elena over to my far right talking and it looked a bit too intense for a party like this.

"Hey Care I'm gonna be right back." I said placing my hand on her shoulder to get her attention.

"Why you want to leave me?" She whined as she downed another shot. "But seriously I'm your wing woman, where are you going?"

"I'll be back before you miss me. I'm just going to check on Matty and Lena."

"Why?" She groaned before sparing the couple a begrudging glance.

"They're just having a normal lovers quarrel, I'm sure they'll be back to making googly eyes and tonging down each other's throats in a few minutes." She bit out before downing yet another shot.

"Care…"

"Whatever…just hurry up and come back, I can't wing without my woman." Caroline said drunkenly before laughing hysterically at her own words.

"Dance with me Caroline!" A greasy brown haired boy with a face covered in zits boldly said as he walked over to her. My lip quirked into a smirk as Caroline giggled and nodded leaving with him.

The boy's name was Arron Samuels and he was one of Mystic Falls biggest nerds. When it clicked in her best friends head just who exactly she was current grinding on she was going to be super pissed, god how I looked forward to tomorrows phone call.

As soon as she left, I felt little and alone at the party. The party seemed too dark, too dangerous even though I knew over half the kids here.

I started making my way towards the last place I saw Elena and Matt but ended up in the woods alone.

Shit this is bad this is really bad I need to leave before- I thought when I felt someone grab my arm.

I stiffened when I heard my name from a familiar voice.

"Fayelen, have you been avoiding me? I haven't seen you this entire week."

"Tyler…" I said and there was a slight tremor in my voice. I turned around and looked at him.

His hazel eyes narrowed and a scowl adorned his handsome face. "Now you remember me huh? Why haven't you been answering my calls?" He hisses in my face his hand on my arm tightening.

"I-I don't have too, you're not my boyfriend anymore."

"Oh come on." He said in a strained voice. "I thought I told you it was an accident; I didn't mean to lose it like I did."

I continued to try to pull my arm out of his, and he glared at me. "I said I was sorry."

"Yeah just like the time before that and the time before that and hmm let me think …oh yeah the time before that." I spat out frustrated with him refusing to release my arm.

He snarled and struck me across the face and I fell to the ground crying. "Do not talk to me that way you little slut."

"Tyler please stop."

"You think just because you say we're through, means we're through? You think I'm just gonna let you go?"

"Tyler stop it." I cried as he pushed me further on the ground his own body caging my own to the earth's floor.

"Tyler don't…p-please s-stop." I begged as I felt his other hand run all over my body.

"You come here to my party… wearing this tiny dress strutting around and dancing with my boys like some slut. And then you have the audacious nerve to try and tell me not to touch you. You are mine to do with whatever whenever I want! Never forget that!" He snarled in my face.

I turned my tear stained face away from him as his hands continued to sexually assault my body my own hand stretching around me. I looked and in the far distance I could just see Matt and Elena. Elena stormed away and Matt was left standing there alone. I wanted to yell but I knew he wouldn't hear me, I was too far away.

Fresh tears entered my eyes when I felt his fingers rip off my panties and enter my core.

"It's about time you learn your place Faye, once and for all." Tyler growled as he fumbled with his belt.

I fought against the shivers that wanted to take over my body knowing what he was planning to do to me now that his fingers had grown bored.

I struggled and fought harder, but it was useless. He was much more stronger than me.

NO! I screamed but it was for not. Tyler didn't hold back, he never did. He was rough, and merciless. My insides burned, I felt as if Tyler had ripped me in half…I could smell blood…my blood I was bleeding.

When my fingers brushed against a medium sized stick I gripped it before snapping my arm across his head.

The branch snapped on contact with his head as he stilled above me, my eyes widened as I watched his eyes seemed to flicker between colors before settling back to his hazel as he glared at me.

"Ouch."

I used all the power in me to punch him between his legs, he briefly exited me upon me hitting him across the head. His hands went to his family jewels as I immediately pushed my body away from his and took off running after kicking off my heels.

I could hear him chasing me and pushed my legs to a faster pace ignoring the pain of twigs and rocks scraping against my bare legs and feet.

"Faye you little bitch, you're gonna pay for that."

I was running so fast that I wasn't watching where I was headed when I ran into something.

"No release me d-don't touch me! Please…please…don't hurt me anymore!" My arms immediately striking out as I tried to pull away but the person just grabbed my shoulders giving me a firm shake.

My tear filled eyes snapped open to see green.

"Please help me…"

He reacted without question lifting my dirtied body into his arms before running.

I felt a jolt of electricity flow through me as I stared at his face not even taking account of how fast we seemed to be moving. He was handsome, very handsome. Curly dirty blonde hair, leaf green eyes…

I blinked being hit with the feeling of déjà vu as I continued to gaze at the stranger.

"Do you find my face so entrancing? Or is there something on it."

"Forgive me." He said sputtering out words before looking at the moon with me.

I watched him from the corner of my eye. He was handsome, very handsome. Curly dirty blonde hair, leaf green eyes.

I found myself reaching out to touch him, he didn't move as my fingers brushed a stray curl from his forehead.

"What is your name?" I asked suddenly.

"…"He said before carefully taking my hand and kissing it.

I blinked again coming out of my reverie to notice the same astonishment and curiosity swimming in his eyes and for the first time I realized he was talking to me, he had also placed me back on my feet.

I blinked one more time before flashing him a small shy smile despite how utterly crappy I felt. "I'm sorry, what did you say?"

His expression became somewhat bashful now that he knew I held his attention.

"Oh, I was just asking if you were alright, you seemed quite distressed a moment ago." His eyes trailing over me with a frown, I noticed his nose flared and his eyes darkened.

The self-conscious part of me made me question if he could smell it on me…the filth…I bit my lip chancing to look behind me in fear that Tyler would be pummeling out of the woods like a mad man but it seemed I was lucky enough to evade him, before turning back towards the stranger. I was safe because of this stranger's unquestioning kindness…at least for now.

"I think so, at least for now at least." I said softly before noticing he still had his hands on my shoulders, they were rotating in small comforting circles.

"Um." I said not wanting to be rude as I stared at his hands.

"Ah- I'm sorry." He said embarrassed as he removed his hands from my shoulders.

"So." I said crossing my arms over my chest, when the stranger removed his hands my body grew cold. "You're a new face, what's your name?"

He smiled. "My name is Stefan, Stefan Salvatore."

I cocked my head. "Salvatore…are you related to Zack?"

Stefan's eyes brightened at the name. "Yeah, he's …my uncle. You know him?"

I nodded. "Yeah, he's cool guy, he tells some crazy stories though…"

"Yeah?"

I nodded before seemingly having word vomit. "Yeah, oh I'm Fayeleen by the way, a mouthful I know and that's not even including my middle name. Fayeleen Gilbert but friends and practically everyone else in town, call me Faye."

"It's a pleasure to meet you." He said flashing me a brilliant smile.

I smiled. It was the beginning of a long night. Stefan and I talked and talked for what seemed like hours. I told him about my siblings and he told me briefly about his older one. It was like we had just clicked and felt the need to spill our freaking souls to each other or something.

No lie it was downright freaky how at ease I was with him and how I wanted him to know everything about me, freaky…but also strangely nice. Stefan had such a warm and inviting aura it made me feel safe and secure. It was like he wrapped me in a security blanket making me forget about all the bad things like Tyler and his heinous actions.

"How long are you thinking of staying? For just the summer or for the school year?" I asked curiously.

Stefan shrugged staring down at me. "I'm not sure. Why?"

I shrugged. "I'm just saying it would be nice to have an Italian speaking partner if I decided to take Italian this year."

He gasped placing his hand on his chest dramatically. "So you just want to use me? Grazie mille!"

"Prego." I said with a laugh of my own.

We talked a bit more and even exchanged numbers before I got a text from Matt labeled 'urgent'.

"I'm sorry, Stef, but it looks like I have to go, my sister is being dramatic again."

"Why do you say that?" Stefan asked chuckling at my less than amused facial expression.

I shook my head. "Oh come on, you know all about dramatic older siblings."

He sighed. "Yes, but I'm sure it's nothing as over the top that my brother would do."

I was about to asked him for an example when my phone rang.

"Lena?" I said after picking up.

"Where are you?" She demanded. "I'm done and I'm ready to go home!"

"Lena what's wrong, what happened Matty texted me… he's freaking out…" I asked seriously.

"It's over between us…I broke up with him, so where are you?"

"Wait, what? Why you guys were inseparable?"

"Where are you? I called mom and dad, they are on their way to pick me up, when they get here we're leaving regardless of if you're in the car or not Faye."

"Wait, wait, what? Why did you call them it's almost midnight, you know dad's not the best driver at night Lena." I asked with a frown.

"I want to go home…now…" She said my frown deepened as I heard the sound of a horn. "Mom and dad are here. Are you coming or not?"

I shook my head even knowing that she couldn't see it. "Give me a minute. I'm on my way to you, and you can tell dad I'll drive us home. I know he's probably tired from work and they were probably sleeping when you called…" I said before hanging up. I looked back at Stefan giving him a small sad smile. "I'm sorry, but I gotta go."

"Want me to walk you back?" Stefan said like the gentle man he was.

I smiled. "Only if you don't mind."

Stefan smiled as I turned leading the way back towards the party. We had almost made it back towards the party when I stilled…Elena nor my parents where in sight, they left without me.

"Faye? Are you ok?" Stefan asked worry in his tone when I clutched his arm tight enough to shatter bones.

"I…I feel cold all of a sudden." I whispered as I stared at the forest floor, a feeling of dread washing over me.

I looked up at Stefan as he draped his leather jacket around me. "Do you feel better?"

"Yes thank you, I'm going to find my other friend Matt; I wanna talk to him about what is going on." I said to Stefan and he nodded.

"I understand, I'm going to head out though. Text me and let me know when you make it home safely alright?" He said with a sweet smile as he placed his hands on my shoulders.

I nodded before removing the jacket from my body to give it back only for him to decline it. "Keep it, I can pick it up later."

"Stefan, I can't-"

"I insist."

"Are you sure?"

"Positive."

"Suit yourself, it's so comfy I might not wanna give it back." I said with a cheeky grin before walking around to find matt after hearing Stefan chuckle "I can live with that."

Luckily I found Matty getting ready to leave and flagged him to give me a ride before he took off.

"Matt what's going on? Talk to me, and maybe I can help." I offered.

He let out a sighed before stopping the car several blocks from where the party was at before he began venting.

I listened like the good friend that I was before we both got out of the car to get some air.

"I just…I don't know what I did wrong Faye. I just want us to be happy, I want her to be happy…"

"I understand…I know you want what's best for Lena, you always do. You're so selfless and kind Matty, you're a great friend and even better boyfriend. Lena just…" My voice caught and I frowned as I felt that since of dread hit me again.

"Faye?" Matt called my name when I let out a pained whimper. I felt the strong urge to throat up….

My knees wobbled as a clutched my chest it felt as if it were on fire. "Matty….Matty I don't feel so-"

I fell to the floor and started coughing as water started coming out of my mouth.

"Faye?!" I distantly heard Matt yell.

I couldn't breathe water just kept pouring out of my mouth I was drowning.
