Summary: Spike and Giles share words about Buffy.
A/N: My first Buffy fic! I started watching Buffy a few months ago for the first time and it's a new favorite show of mine! I'm just getting back into writing so this is just a short and sweet piece. All spelling and grammatical mistakes are my own. Hope you enjoy!
Spike looked up at the moon that glowed above Sunnydale. The streets were quiet as he dragged his cigarette. The humans were shutting down their shops and cafes, getting ready to lay to rest before starting the day over in a matter of hours, but the creatures of the night were just rising and claiming their quite alleys and corners on the streets.
He pushed himself off of the brick wall that faced the entrance of the Magic Shop and flicked the remainder of his cigarette as he heard the doorbell hanging above sing indicating the door had been opened. His eyes searched hoping it was her, Buffy. He just wanted to talk to her, explain himself even though he knew she probably wouldn't listen… again. Instead, his eyes met those of Giles behind his very spotless glasses.
"Spike," he said turning lock the door behind him. Spike hated how casually and non-threatened the Scooby Gang was around him. Years ago, they wouldn't dare turn their backs to him.
"Oh, it's you."
"What are you doing here?"
"I was looking for your Slayer," Spike replied coolly.
"Well, she isn't here," Giles said turning the door handle to make sure it was indeed locked.
"I just need to explain to her…"
"Explain a robotic Buffy you programmed to... fawn over you?" Giles asked turning to watch him.
"Well… yeah, but I would try to say it better than that."
Giles abruptly moved towards him, pinning him against the brick wall he once leaned on. "How about you just stay away from her," he said looking straight into Spike's eyes. They both knew Spike wouldn't dare risk the pain that was sure to come if he tried to hurt Giles.
"I told you, I just want to talk to her and explain."
"There is nothing else to explain, Spike. You've fallen in love with her and you need to stay away from her."
"I'm not sure if I can. I mean, obviously, I've got a serious problem given what I did."
"What do you want from her? What do you want from this?"
"All I want is her. All I want is a chance."
"Spike, she probably doesn't want to admit it, or even know it yet, but she's fond of you. She might even love you if she thinks about it long enough. She, a vampire slayer, has had ample opportunity to kill you, but she hasn't. That doesn't change the fact that she doesn't need you in her life. She needs someone who can give her a life to live in the daylight, not keep her warm in a crypt."
"Your stereotypes are getting tired," Spike rolled his eyes, "I do have a bed… and I can invest in some daylight bulbs."
"This isn't a joke. This is Buffy's life. If you truly love her and want her to be happy, let her go."
Giles let go of Spike and they both straightened their clothing. Without a farewell he began to walk away from Spike, hoping his world would stick.
"I'm not like him you know?" Giles stopped but didn't turn to face him, " Like Angel. I'm not an idea of a vamp man hiding behind a curse and a soul. I'm me; I'm Spike; who I've always been… just forced to be nice to you lots more often than I'd like to. I may be dead, but I still remember that patience can be a great virtue. I'll wait for her for as long as it takes."
Giles stood for a moment and turned around to look at Spike, but he had already disappeared into the night.
