ER Visit
"Nicky wake up." Jackie said frantically as she shook him awake.
"What's wrong?" He asked worriedly.
"My finger, it's purple, my fingers swelled and now my wedding ring is stuck on it."
Nick looked at her ring finger, it really was purple.
"Ok, it's ok, let's get you to the doctor though." He told her.
"I am so stupid, I took all my other rings off because I knew my fingers were swollen but I didn't even think about my wedding ring. How dumb can I get?" She said berating herself.
"Don't beat yourself up." He told her as he raced to get the kids out of bed.
Pretty soon the whole family was driving to the ER, Nick didn't think they had time to drop the kids off at her parent's house, he thought maybe if they wasted that time Jackie could lose her finger.
"Hon keep your hand in the air." Nick told her.
Jackie raised her hand.
Nick had to stop for a red light.
He looked in the mirror and started to laugh.
"Look at our goofballs." He told Jackie.
She turned around and saw all of the kids imitating Jackie with their little hands in the air, except for Hundley who was sound asleep in her car seat.
Jackie laughed.
Once they got to the hospital the ER doctor they saw assured them that this happens frequently.
He used a small tool to cut it off her finger.
It was slightly painful because of how tightly the ring was stuck on there but what hurt the worst was seeing what had to be done to her wedding ring, when the doctor gave her the ring back it had a large slice in the back of it. To Jackie it felt almost like he had sliced her and Nick's marriage right in half.
"Don't worry, it can be fixed, my wife had the exact thing happen to her and she was really upset too but our jeweler fixed it and it was good as new." The doctor assured her with a smile, after seeing the hurt look on Jackie's face.
"My concern is for your finger, can you move it?" The doctor asked.
"Yes." Jackie said as she moved it up and down.
"That's good, do you have feeling in it?" The doctor said as he touched it gently.
"Ouch, yes, I have feeling in it." Jackie assured him as she grimaced slightly.
Suddenly little Sloan became outraged.
"Don't do that." He said as he angrily pushed the doctor's hand away, how dare someone hurt his mommy.
"Oh buddy, that's so nice to protect mommy but the doctor is trying to help her." Nick told him as he scooped him up.
"What a nice boy." Jackie told him with a smile, fighting to hold back tears, her kids were so sweet.
The doctor smiled at Sloan as well, what a cute little boy.
"I'm going to go get you an ice pack to put on your finger for a while, I'll be right back." The doctor said before he left the room.
When he came back into the room he looked at Jackie's finger.
"The swelling is already going down, that's good." He said as he gently laid the ice pack on her finger.
She sat there for quite a while icing her finger.
When they left the ER that night the only evidence of what had happened was that her finger was just slightly swollen and a little bruised where the ring had gotten stuck, that and her ring was now snapped in half but Nick promised he'd take it in to get it fixed for her soon!
The End!
