Claire was sat in the sand, looking out at a never ending sea. No time had passed for her since Desmond had given her the news of Charlie's death.
She had cried and blamed Desmond. However nothing had made Charlie appear, walking towards her and with a smile on his face. He had died to rescue all of them, to rescue her. But, how did you keep on living when the person you loved the most was dead?
There were a lot of things that she had never said to him. She had never said 'I love you', even though she loved him with all her heart. All that feeling, all that will to live, had died with her beloved Charlie. There was nothing.
Nothing until she felt something; something warm; something alive. She turned around and saw the pair of eyes that she had been looking for. His eyes.
"Charlie!" she said. It was impossible, he was dead. But there he was, just like she remembered him. She stood up and hugged him. "I love you. I'm so sorry for not saying it before you…" She didn't finish her sentence however, instead cut off by Charlie who placed a finger on her lips.
"I know, and I love you too, but you can't always be sad. You're sad, even in your dreams," he said, still holding his finger against her lips. She had missed his voice so much and to hear it again…It sounded so real. "Promise me something" he said. She nodded. "Don't be sad anymore."
"I can't," she muttered, biting her lip in an attempt not to cry.
"Yes you can. You have to be happy and enjoy your life. You only have one chance at it and I don't want you to waste it by mourning me. You have to be happy for Turnip-head. He needs you."
"And I need you" she said as tears formed in her eyes.
"I'll always be with you, and never forget that. You may not see me, but I am with you, always and forever. So go on, and be happy. We will meet again, I promise." He embraced her and she relished the feeling of his body against hers.
"You aren't leaving are you?" she asked, sounding like a child that was afraid of their dad deserting them.
"Didn't I just promise that I'll never leave you? Don't you believe me?" Before she could speak he captured her lips in a long and passionate kiss.
"I love you Charlie." He smiled and then he was gone.
"Claire. Claire wake up." Blearily she opened her eyes to find she was no longer on the beach. Instead she was in bed. The tropical beach had been replaced with the interior of an Other's home. Hurley was in front of her and was holding Aaron who was bawling. Hurley's house and hers were close to each other, so Hurley would normally wake up what he heard Aaron crying. He had found her asleep with a smile on her face and he hadn't really wanted to wake her. However he didn't know how to calm Aaron down.
"Hurley what happened?" she asked as she sat up and took Aaron from him.
"Oh Aaron woke up and started crying. I came to see if everything was okay."
"Sorry he woke you up," she said as she comforted the crying baby.
"That's no problem. I'll leave you alone with Aaron okay?"
"Thanks and sorry again for waking you." However as he walked out of the room she couldn't help but think that she was never alone – Charlie was always with her.
