Prologue

"Come with me. All you have to do is leave home behind. But you can never come back. Never." The boy outside my windowsill extended his hand to me, a smile most conspicuously hidden in the corners of his mouth. My two younger brothers, John and Michael, dove and did summersaults in the air, laughing as they pleased, ready to fly away to Neverland.

"Never?" I said in more of a statement than question, turning away from the window, my thoughts all in a scramble.

"Forget them Wendy. Forget them all. Come with me and we'll never, never have to worry about grown-up things again." Peter's lips brushed my ear as he spoke, sending chills down my spine.

"Never," I repeated as once before, "is an awfully long time." I replied, looking into the face of the young fellow, a smirk plainly on his face now. I heard shouts from below as my parents rushed home, slamming shut the carriage door and following Nana, our dog and nurse, inside the house hurriedly.

"They are coming for you." Peter mocked, "What will they say when you are the only child in this room?"

"I am not a child." I cut in, making him start to laugh. I wrinkled my eyebrows together at him. This boy was extremely rude, and was not well taught on how to be a man. Well, he would never be a man, just a foolish young boy forever and ever.

"What is it? What's wrong?" Aunt Millicent's shriek was followed my mother's and father's hurried footsteps to my room. I glanced at the nursery door, hoping that they would hurry faster, as Peter grabbed my hand and pulled me out the window, having me glide through the air with such ease.

It has always been a childhood dream of mine to fly, though I couldn't enjoy it at the moment. I shot one final glance back at my nursery window, where my parents now stood, still in their ball attire, searching the sky and below for their children that were to be snug in their beds.

They did not know that John, Michael, and I were now soaring in the air, off to a far away place called Neverland.

"I am so sorry mother. I am so sorry father." I cried as silent tears fell down my cheeks, mixing with the soft white snow that fell upon me as I flew into the night.
