I run as fast as I can. I know the careers will catch up to me anyway." It's ok", I keep telling myself, "You're going to die". I just hope my grandmother isn't watching. The first spear thrown misses to the left of me. I feel like just stopping and letting them kill me. Better to see it coming then to run away from it. Then I hear a scream. It's the scream of the district 4 girl, Rain.
With all the screaming and yelling of all 5 of the Careers I can tell that they stopped running after me. I change courses and run behind a tree. They aren't watching me anymore. But they are missing a great opportunity. It's just me, them, and Roots left in the game. But Roots is almost dead. I saw him myself. I don't think I healed him to the point of return. All I did was make him comfortable so he could die in peace. It's the least I could do. Roots was like a younger brother to me for the short time I knew him.
All the careers are trying to help Rain. She's dangling by her foot attached to a tree. Suddenly I hear a muffled scream out of Rain and I know it's her last. She falls out of the tree. I see blood on her neck. I can only assume its split. Two of the careers are crying. the rest are trying to climb up a tree. I know it has to be Roots in that tree. Wait this is my time to capitalize! But I've never thrown a knife before. I also grab a stick on the ground. It's sharp. Maybe my martial art skills will come to use. My first knife misses the district one girls head completely. She turns around. I scream and run at her. She tries to resist but my stick stabs her in the throat. Now the district 2 girl is after me. I see the spear in her hands. I dive to the ground and catch the spear as its being thrown. She is defenseless. She tries to run. I kill her before she can get three feet away. Three cannons fire at once.
By now district one and two boy are coming down. They never got to what I think is Roots. When they reach the ground I see one of them fall to the floor followed by the other. Ahdartninneachn ofn their backs. Thenhout of the tree comeshRoots.
"How are you alive"?
"District 4 gave me capitol medicine". He was the only career to abandon his pack.
"So now what…" I ask with tears in my eyes.
He does not waste a moment. While his dart comes for me I think I was a good competitor and made my grandma proud. She would be proud that my strategy was to hide and not be seen. It worked. Since that's what she did in her games. I did not go to the cornucopia. My hiding spot was between three bushes. No one could see me. It was only Root's near death experience that drove me out of my spot. His dart hits me in the face. Of course their can only be one winner. Allies don't last. I die.
