It was the first week. New York University and the glory of it loomed over him still.
He felt like he was walking around aimlessly, he had no idea where anything was and he was a born and bred New Yorker. He could not imagine how students from other states were handling this.
The rain was pouring down outside on this cold September day.
He was walking towards the door when he saw someone just a little bit ahead of him approaching the door, too.
The person had their hood up but from the trench coat he could tell it was a woman. He did the only thing that chivalry would dictate and he sped up a bit to get to the door first and then held it open for her.
Standing behind the door just a bit, he was able to see her bring her head up a bit in surprise and appreciation. That's when he saw those crystal clear green eyes, a smile that was so beautiful it punched him the gut leaving him breathless, and a full head of auburn wavy hair.
She was by far the most beautiful person he had ever seen.
"Oh, thanks so much." She said as she breezed out of the door and into the pouring rain.
He stood there trying to collect himself.
A few others passed through the open door and it took him no longer than a minute to decide that he needed to know more about that woman.
So he took off through the door letting it shut with a bang behind him. He could feel his hair begin to stick to the sides of his face as he whipped his head around to see if he could catch a glimpse of her in the crowd of umbrellas.
His eyes were blurry from the down pour and it took him a few glances each way to find that trench coat but finally he did.
She was sitting on the bench waiting for the bus.
It took only a few seconds for him to arrive at the bench.
He did so in a huff, accidentally he splashed water around her feet but she was well prepared for the water as she had chosen a pair of rain boots.
Still, he had surprised her.
She looked up at him with a furrowed brow and a curious smile on her lips.
He stared at her.
She stared back.
And somehow, he just knew that this was the girl for him.
She was the one he had been looking, wishing, and hoping for all of his life.
Now, there was only one thing to do.
He stuck out his hand.
"Hi, I'm Derek Shepherd."
She smiled wider and grasped his hand.
It did not go unnoticed by him that their hands fit perfectly together like two puzzle pieces.
Then she answered.
"Hi Derek, I'm Addison Montgomery."
All I know is we said, "Hello"
So dust off your highest hopes
All I know is pouring rain and everything has changed
All I know is the new found grace
