I sped quickly across the dirt forest floor. The twinkling stars taunted me, because at least they knew a way out of this nightmare. A ran past trees and darkness and I couldn't get out. I was afraid. Very afraid. I neared the edge of the forest and saw what I most feared. Elena. Once my best friend, she was now an absolute monster. She looked up from the lifeless, drained body in front of her. Her eyes glowed red and the veins in her face began to fade away. Blood ran down the corners of her mouth. She wiped her mouth on her bare arm, and her eyes drained of all color. I knew she couldn't help the monster she had become. She had saved my life, and I knew that it could be me right now, killing people all over this town in effort to stay alive, but no. I was human. I was happy, and she is what I could have, and would have become.
