A/N: Part of this poem/song is used in another fanfic of mine: I Don't Mind Singing Loudly to the World, as well, but here it is in full!

We'll Go Together into the Light

If you reach out first,
we'll go back to the light a little faster
but we'll go, we'll always go together
because your hand's still there:

tucked in a pocket,
pulled inside a sleeve,
wrapped in a bandage
but it's there and I'll take that hand
even if there are claws on it that'll scratch me up
because I know they've scratched you up more
beneath that bandage, beneath that sleeve,
beneath the flawless skin that's a scab
hiding still fresh wounds...

Your hand's still there.
If you hold it out, I'll take it faster.
If you don't, I'll coax it out of that pocket,
out of that sleeve, out of that bandage,
out of the shadow you crouch behind
and maybe the light burns, maybe that's why you shy away
but I'll coax you and be your sunglasses so they won't burn

Because if I leave you, you might just fade away
and I know; I've seen it before and not again
so I'll hold out my hand, and whether you turn your head
or slap it away, I'll be there, because your hand's still there
and the shadow, and the light,
and I'll wait.
