Introduction

The day a mysterious man came into town and destroyed my family manor, I felt crushed. When another man saw that I was the last of the Malodor family to survive, he smiled and offered a deal: he would grant me my life's greatest wish. In return, he could have my soul once my life's greatest wish was fulfilled. I hadn't had a greatest wish before then. But then it came to me: I wanted to find out who the man who took everything away from me was and take everything he loved away from him. Revenge. The mysterious man smiled. "Perfect. What is your name, child?" he asked. "Adelaide," I replied. "Well, Miss Adelaide," the man replied, putting his hand on my back. His hand burned something into my back, which made me scream as he said. "I am Donovan Winter, you're new butler."

With that, and the demonic symbol burned into my back, I started my new life as Lady Adelaide Malodor, head of Malodor Fashions and bound to Donovan Winter; Black Butler.

Part One

"Do I have to do this, Donovan?" I asked as our carriage pulled up to Phantomhive manor. Three years had passed since the fall of Malodor manor, and I was sixteen, trying to fulfill my duties as Lady Malodor. "Yes, my mistress. FunTom toys has been wanting to merge with Malodor fashions for years. Earl Phantomhive has been anxious to meet you," Donovan replied. I rolled my eyes. Rumors said that Earl Phantomhive was exceedingly young, younger than me. "Am I really doing business with a child?" I asked. "Earl Phantomhive is not a child, Miss Adelaide. He's an important figure in this part of Europe," Donovan said sternly. I rolled my eyes. How could a boy who's barely a man be such a big deal? Donovan stepped out. "Milady," he said, offering me his hand. I lifted my long blue skirts, took his hand and stepped out into the sun. I looked to see a boy that looked no older than thirteen and a tall, thin man with black hair and red eyes. "Miss Malodor," the boy greeted me with a bow. "That's Lady Malodor to you," Donovan said firmly. "Oh, hush Donovan. Titles aren't everything," I shushed him. "Earl Phantomhive, it's a pleasure," I said with a curtsy. "And who might you be?" I asked the tall man. "Sebastien Michaelis, at your service, milady," the man replied with a bow. "My butler," Ciel explained. "Well, he's a very handsome butler. Just like my Donovan," I said with a smile. "Thank you, Lady Malodor," Sebastien said with a polite smile. "Shall we go inside for tea?" Ciel offered. "Tea would be lovely," I replied. As we walked into Phantomhive manor, I noticed a certain look exchanged between Donovan and Sebastien. "Is there a problem, Donavan?" I asked. Donovan looked away. "No, milady, no problem." "Good. Please retrieve my bag from the carriage and bring it to me," I requested calmly. "Yes, madam," he replied, walking back to the carriage.

"Thank you, Sebastien," I smiled as the butler handed me a cup of sweet-smelling tea. "You're welcome, Miss Malodor." Ciel seemed to be watching me as I sipped my tea. Lemon and honey with a hint of sugar. Perfect. "That'll be all, Sebastien. Leave us to our business," Ciel said firmly. "Yes, my Lord," Sebastien replied, exiting the room. Once the door closed, I set my tea down on its saucer and smiled at the young Earl. "So, you're the owner of FunTom toys?" I asked. "Isn't that obvious?" Ciel asked. Wow, rude. "I was only trying to make polite conversation, Earl Phantomhive. No need to fuss," I said as calmly as my intolerant-for-rudeness nature would allow me.
