Hello! This is my first ASoUE fanfic. It's a oneshot Klaus/Isadora fic. Please enjoy!
Disclaimer: I do not own ASoUE in any way. With all due respect, Ginny Baudelaire.
Isadora stretched her
cramped hand, covered in chalk dust. She had just finished writing I
will not put crabs in Carmelita Spats' lunch fifty times on Ms.
Bass's chalkboard. As usual, she had not done this, but
Carmelita always blamed her for it anyway.
Gathering up her heavy book bag, Isadora wearily sunk into her worn desk chair. She couldn't stand this new life, full of bullies that made her life a living hell. Why had her parents died? Why had they never told her about V.F.D? Only questions, never answers, had filled Isadora Quagmire's life for the past few months.
With an anxious sigh, she rested her head on her desk. Tears filled her eyes, never managing to fall.
"Isadora?"
She whirred around at the familiar voice. The one that caused a warm, prickly feeling to course up and down her spine, though she wasn't quite sure why. Klaus Baudelaire's voice.
She attempted and failed a smile, rising from her seat tiredly. He was just standing there, in the classroom doorway, looking completely innocent – and adorable. Did I just think that? She wondered.
"Did you finish your lines, Isadora," he inquired, taking one small step into the room.
"What? Oh yeah," she stammered, hitching up her book bag once more. She could never think straight around him. "Just – dropped a pencil," she said, muttering the last part, stooping under her desk to retrieve the imaginary pencil and to hide her now falling tears from him.
When she stood back up, however, Klaus had a look of concern and understanding on his pale face.
"You didn't actually drop a pencil, did you, Izzy," he murmured quietly, taking one more step toward her.
Isadora couldn't take this anymore. With a sob, she ran forward and flung herself into Klaus's arms. He stiffened up at first, but then relaxed as she cried her heart out on his shoulder, letting all her heartache out.
Isadora was so overcome by the feeling of being in Klaus's arms, she felt she could have stayed like that forever. She soon realized what she was doing, however.
Backing away suddenly, she startled both of them.
"I'm s-sorry about t-that," she muttered thickly, wiping her nose on her thick wool sleeve and chaffing it. "I d-didn't m-mean to-"
"Izzy," he whispered, softly and kindly. When she didn't look up, he grasped her hand tightly. "Izzy," he said more firmly, and she looked up. "You don't think I'm going through the same thing too? Violet and I lost our parents in the fire too, remember? We have hundreds of questions unanswered that may never be answered, remember?"
He didn't raise his voice, but the exasperation in it made Isadora feel worse than anything. She searched for an inconsequential object, settling on her left shoe.
"Y-You called me I-Izzy," she said softly, looking up determinedly into his sad brown eyes. You never noticed how beautiful his eyes were unless you were up close, she thought. "Only Q-Quigley ever c-called me Izzy."
At this, he looked down and his cheeks flushed. "I am sorry," he muttered.
"Don't be," she replied, bending down to meet his eyes again. "I l-like it even better when you do. You can always call me Izzy."
He looked up and smiled. "And you'll always have my shoulder to cry on," he replied, and, taking her hand, they walked out of the classroom together, enjoying a brief moment away from their series of unfortunate events.
So there you have it! My first ASoUE fic! I know I usually write Harry Potter stuff, but I was a fan of ASoUE long before HP. Anyway, you see that little blue button? Right down there?
