Some Things Never Change
by M.
Blair Sandburg was awakened by the touch of a hand gently shaking his shoulder.
Opening his eyes, the sleepy man found blonde hair hanging over him, framing a
lovely face. His wife, Aislynn, held a slim finger to her lips and gestured for
him to get up.
Grabbing a pair of jeans, Blair followed the petite blonde out of their bedroom
and down the hall.
The young couple was met at the nursery door by Jim and his wife, Megan. Both
were smiling.
Aislynn prodded Blair forward to stand next to the doorframe and moved up behind
him to rest her chin on his shoulder.
After a moment of watching, it became apparent what they were finding so
amusing. Standing on a chair, leaning into the crib was Jim and Megan's son,
Simon. The little boy was talking softly to, Blair and Aislynn's newborn son,
Tyler James Sandburg.
"Heya, Chief," The four year old whispered. "You feel ok? Auntie Lennie was just
in here and fed you so's I know you're not hungry and your diaper's not messy so
why're you awake again?" One small hand punctuated little Simon's words with
gentle strokes across the baby's forehead.
"Maybe its like what Daddy says, you're like Uncle Blair and gots too much
energy 'sleep all the time."
Little Tyler wriggled happily and his blue eyes twinkled up at his visitor.
"Aunt Lennie says you're gonna be crawlin' soon." Simon informed his young
friend as he rearranged Tyler's blanket and teddy bear. "Daddy says we're gonna
have to watch you like a hawk t'keep you from breakin' your neck. He says it's a
good thing Uncle Blair married Aunt Lennie cause she's a para ...pare...EMT. Cause
Uncle Blair needs her t'patch him up when he gets an owie. And Daddy says dat
happens a lot!"
Both holding back laughter, Aislynn and Blair looked over at a very embarrassed
Jim. The saying 'little pictures have big ears' definitely took on a whole new
meaning when you were dealing with a child that possessed Sentinel abilities.
Apparently focused on Tyler, Simon didn't notice his audience and kept on
speaking.
"Don't you worry Tywer, I'm not gonna let nothin' happen to you." His soft voice
was very firm, and held shades of his father, as he spoke to the baby. "Never.
We're gonna be best friends and I'm not never gonna let anybody pick on you."
Smiling broadly at that declaration, Jim and Blair shared a look. It appeared
their hopes for their sons would come true. The friendship forged by the first
generation would be carried on by the second.
