Please Read: This one-shot is in relation to my Gray x Lucy stories 3, 2, Run. Essentially, Gray grew up away from civilization in a place called The Lab, and only knows what things are in theory. This is based shortly after Ur takes him into her care, giving him his first taste of the living world.
The Kiss
Gray and Leon were sitting on the edge of the couch, watching a cartoon play out on the television. Ur found it amusing how the two viewed it different. For Leon, it was something he'd seen all the time and mimicked scenes quietly. Gray, on the other hand, was experiencing something new. The boy had never seen what a TV was until three weeks ago when Ur had brought Gray to live with her and Leon.
Trapped inside a dark, steel prison that the Lab was, Gray only knew about certain things in theory. Things she'd taught him through words and pictures. Of course, it came clear that Gray wanted something outside this.
When Gray woke up, it had been on the day he met Lucy Heartfilia, the director's daughter. She was the connection to the outside world, a world Gray had long to see. Though he wasn't allowed to leave her house without permission from the director, he'd begun to see more of the world he longed for. To whether he was going to meet Lucy again…
Suddenly, Leon made a foul noise, startling Ur from her baking. Leon had slapped his hands over his mouth, his face red. Gray, on the other hand, found Leon's reaction suddenly more interesting than the TV. He looked at Leon with confusion. Ur laughed and walked over, patting Gray on the head. "What's wrong Leon?"
"They were kissing!" he wailed. "Kissing is gross!"
"What's kissing?" Gray asked me, his eyes wide with interest.
"Kissing is disgusting," Leon said, jumping from the couch. "Adults do it all the time, and it's gross! They put their lips together like this-" he mimicked the expression "-and go chu~!"
"They don't go chu~, Leon," Ur laughed.
"They do to!" Leon counted.
Shaking her head, she settled down on the couch next to Gray. "A kiss is something that is shared with someone you love. It's a form of expression, one that deep and pure. It's like this," she kissed his forehead softly. "But when you share it with someone you love, it has a deeper feeling to it. It's something very special."
Gray looked at her curiously. "Did Ur kiss anyone?"
Oh boy, she'd done more than kiss someone, but she didn't mention that. "Yes, I did."
"Really?"
"Yep, his name was Luca." (1)
His eyes grew wide with the name. "Where's Luca now?"
Pain filled her heart and she side, sitting back into the couch. "Luca… he passed away, some time ago." She noticed Gray's expression become sad. Patting him gently on the head, Ur smiled at him. "But I'm not lonely. I have you and Leon in my life, and that's a precious gift in its own."
"Really?"
Ur nodded. "Really, really. Now come along, let's finish making the cakes together." Despite Leon's protests about finishing the TV show, they both ended up in the kitchen, helping her bake the last few muffins together.
Ur was not lonely, never really felt lonely since she always had Leon and Gray beside her. Watching them two grow was something very important to her, and something cherished dearly in her heart.
However, some part of her still wished the baby she'd been carrying and the husband she lost was still here, so she could share the same feelings with them.
(1) Ur's husband is never mentioned in the Manga/Anime. On the Fairy Tail Wikia, he is just stated as Unnamed Husband. I decided he needed a name xD
Short, sharp and shiny =D
